Hi All,
I have some Athearn Hi-F F7 shells that do not seem to fit the new frames that Athearn uses now. Was there a difference in the shells for the Hi-F frames? Maybe above the couplers? Also I was wondering if anyone makes the part in the red circle in the picture? I'm not sure what they call them. I would think that would be a money maker. I know I have more than a few needing that part fixed.
Any info. would be great.
Thanks Mike

Something out there can probably be made to bolt under it. You have any pictures of the chassis itself? Looking at the holes on the lower side of the body shell would anything like this work?

Hi Mike. Athearn made two types of F7A shells. The early one was based on the Globe shell with small front coupler pocket. The later design still based on the Globe shell was modified to fit their new drives. late 1950s. Openned front pocket and wider rear pocket to fit the newer frames. Here is picture of a Early Glode with small pilot openning. Will post more info and pictures tonight. Carl

Mike,
The circled part is the locomotive pilot. Unfortunately, I couldn't find a direct replacement for the "freight" pilot of the model (Intermountain once sold the one from their HO scale models separately, but no longer lists locomotive parts on their website); however, "passenger" pilots are available from Cal-Scale and Detail Associates: http://www.walthers.com/exec/productinfo/190-442 http://www.walthers.com/exec/productinfo/229-2214
I put "freight" and "passenger" in quotes as they're modeler and railfan lexicon that isn't necessarily true. For example, the PRR had the many F units with "passenger" pilots that were exclusively freight engines, and either style of pilot was offered as an railroad option by EMD.
