This sold on Ebay quite a while ago but I saved the pictures because I wanted to find out more about it. It's the only one I've ever seen. Does anyone have some info regarding this? I checked the collectors resource and don't think I saw anything there.

Do you have a TYCO stock number for this one? Certainly never cataloged to my knowledge.

We had an N&W Pony show up recently, that I would have guessed to be Mantua, but it's in a TYCO box with the black-circle Collector's logo on the box like this one.

I'll review late '70s MR's and RMC's for ads and see if anything matches up to this one.

Interesting find...

Hello,
i'm new here, but i have several "Generals" from Tyco and Mantua. Never saw a blue one with the Virginia and Truckee tender though.
Greetings,

Unfortunately I don't have the stock number. By the way, I never did get the reply from the woman who had the boxed westinghouse car. In the future I will make a point of getting those numbers a bit more aggressively.

I'm about to post another Tyco item I found and saved pictures of but failed to get any item numbers on. Again, I have never seen this one either.

Ends soon.

I think I have seen the 1890's passenger cars for this at some point over the years too. I wasn't collecting steam era stuff, but am pretty sure they were Tyco.

For what its worth.

Going back through some of my catalogs #210-31 General Loco & Tender, Western & Atlantic, first appeared in the 1976 issue. I found no listing date for #210-08 it's the same loco & tender in V & T RR colors.
My beleif is that they were offered as a " Collectors Item Limited Edition"
It was labled that way on the box and there were 3 that I know of that were in that format
210-08, 210-31, and 206-09.
206-09 is a Pony Loco & Tender (0-4-0) in N & W colors.
All 3 had the loco's shrinkwrapped to the insert and inserted into the box and they are the only ones I have ever seen that way.
I'll have to go and look and see if the ones I have are still as they came.

OK the boxes say "Collector Series Limited Edition". And the loco's are shrinkwrapped to the insert.
I thought there were 4 but I only found 3 the numbers above are correct and here are some pics

AHM made a General or similar V&T RR in blue it was a different shade of blue. I have never seen the complete engine & tender but the reason I know is I have a tender frame only in blue from AHM looked for the loco but never found it.

I don't know it to be the case, but this series of TYCO steamers with the Collector's Limited Series logo seem like another forerunner to the return of the Mantua name.

Conside the line of Deluxe F-7A models that are issued just prior to Mantua returning in 1978. This set of steamers seems similar to the type of offerings Mantua returned with in their line of the late '70s.

Again, I have no proof and am only speculating here. But they do almost seem like Mantua was debating launching their line again and had TYCO do these releases perhaps to guage response?

Any thoughts?

Seems possible. And maybe that's why there were only a few produced this way (shrinkwrapped to the insert). Just to put "feelers" out to see how popular they migh be. For some reason I expected to find 4 here but couldn't. Doesn't mean there aren't more produced in this way just means I haven't seen any, and if I have others I didn't come accross them.
