I just rec'd a box of goodies from ebay and was stumped at what I had received. A plain 0-8-0 engine #917 without a connected tender!!! In this lot I found a Chattanooga tender as well. It looks to be a complete set from 1991 from what I can determine. Are these later engines rare or something?? I haven't seen another like it. I'll post some pics later if anyone is interested. greg

I've seen those Mehano Chattanoogas in auctions before, so I guess Tyco finally gave up on the PT drive and wanted something more reliable. Must be how they came into possession of the Tyco tooling that became their own 0-8-0 and 2-8-0.

I runs quite smooth. I think you're right about needing a change though, those old PT tender driven units weren't all that!!!!

Yes, Tyco gave up the ghost with the old tender-driven Chatt about 1989 or so.
They went to a modified IHC/Mehano Mikado. Only thing, this is a real bargain-basement loco - no lead or trailing trucks, and no valve gear. The IHC Mike has these, of course.
I've seen quite a few of these locos on Ebay in the last year. It's very easy to turn one into a Mike, but the valve gear would have to be added from a junk IHC loco.
