I have an open frame Mantua motor that is not running well & I suspect could do with a commutator 'deglaze'.
How does one go about that?

First remove the brushes, The soak the motor in alcohol. After soaking for a few mins, try to polish the commutator with paper towel.

If that doesn't work, you can remove the rotor from the motor and chuck it in a motor tool or drill. At a slow speed, polish the commutator with successively finer grades of sand paper until you are using paper. You should end up with a mirror finish. This works beautifully on Athearn motors, but I've not tried it on Mantuas. Maybe you could replace the motor?
