This is one of 2 cars that came with Tyco's California GT Race set. I picked up the set at a train show I went to with my son. Sure he liked trains but once he saw how these race sets worked, well, what else would a 7 year old want? I didn't put up much resistance either. We had a lot of fun with that set. My wife loved it, it took up the whole living room floor, oops! I'll get the picture of the box cover for another post.
The spoilers on both cars are now missing. Even with the "magna traction" (actually coined by AFX I believe) these are so fast you can't help but launch a missile across the room into the hardest available object.
I just picked up a near mint replacement which I'll just showcase when it comes in. I do have some pics of this model below. The original should have white rims, this one has grey, I'll swap the white ones when it comes in.

NYC, I collect and race Ho scale slot cars, and I have the same car sans spoiler like yours. Your cars would really stick to the track if you replaced the rear tires with silicone rubber tires. They are super sticky, and you can clean them by rolling them over double sided clear tape. All my cars are equipped with 'em.
Carl T. ps, slot car collecting is as addicting as collecting trains!

I know how addicting it could be. When I bought that set for my son I started getting right back into. I was racing cars since I was 7 years old myself. I grew up in New York so there was everything you can imagine in that city. About 3 blocks from my house was a slot car shop. I'm guessing it was probably 1/32 scale, whatever scale you most commonly see at slot shops.
Later when I was 12 my father went nuts with AFX Aurora stuff. He built a 4' x 24' 4 lane layout. There's a lot of good memories there. All of it's gone, he garage saled it about 15 years ago because my brothers and I didn't have interest at that time. Oh well. One of my favorites was the good humor truck. It was just funny as heck racing that thing around. I think those were called Thunder Jet motors then. All of ours were that type then the G-Force came out, my dad bought one of those, we called him a cheater. We were amazed at the speed, it was ridiculous at the time.
Fast forward to 2 years ago and I got right back into it. After purchasing that California GT set I bought a huge tub of the Tyco/Mattel track and had big plans, which I actually started. I've since put it away but I'm ready to start breaking it out again. There are loops, banks, single lane tracks, the HP power packs, lots of goodies in there.
