Hi All,

My Son found a box of trains in his Father in laws basement after he passed away. He asked me to fix them up for my Grand Daughter. I managed to get the common Tyco pieces fixed as well as the Bachmann and Varney cars. I have a few pieces that I'm not sure on as far as who made them and the availability of parts. They are as follows.

Thanks for any help you could give me on this.

The Alco looks like AHM and the F unit looks like a Revell to me. Nice pieces nonetheless.

The PC unit to me looks similar to a Lima Unit - but would agree with Shaygetz that it is AHM

The Penn central is an old Mehano RS-11 that was sold by Life-Like. I don't think it was ever part of the AHM line, but it had the same drive as the AHM RS-2.

Aye...that be the kicker, it looks exactly like my RS-2s.

First pic - early Varney/Life-Like RS11. Made by Mehano in Yugoslavia, later sold (with a different drive) by AHM, Model Power, Life-Like, and IHC.

Your loco has a good shell but a junk sill unit. Your loco has the earlier drive and is somewhat harder to find, but the later RS11 is widely available on Ebay.

The coupler is called an X2F coupler and is widely available.

Second pic - The B-unit is a Penn Line F7B (the stirrup steps give it away). These shells are clones of the Athearn F7B shells except for the steps, and were later incorporated into the Life-Like toy HO line (I believe that they may even be still in production). The power unit looks like a Varney F3A drive, but may also be a Penn Line F7A drive as many parts look similar to the B unit frame.

It is possible to obtain junk Varney F3As on Ebay. This would provide you with a parts source, or perhaps you could use your drive as a parts source if the F3 is in decent shape.

As for a shell, any Athearn, Globe, Tyco, Mantua or Life-Like shell should fit.

I do agree that the RS11 is mehano but as to the F7b. The drive is a Varney type. Penn line drives tho made by Varney all clearly said Penn-line on them. I would say it is a early Life like release made after they aquired the Varney dies.
