I am taking the new wife to Hawaii this week. I google map searched the place and did not find any train museums or tracks of any kind (except a small ride at Dole). Very disappointed, i would think it would be worth building a 26 mile bridge from one island to the other for passenger servce. At a dollar a ride the bizzion dollar investment would be paid back in 200 years or so. sounds like a goverment grant is coming soon.
I am begining to think my wife had a motive to pick Hawaii. Could it be that she wanted to go somewhere where there is no train museum?
Is it too late to rethink this whole marriage thing....lol

Not to worry. You're in the same boat as most of us. Except, Tyconut. His wife wants him to have trains. My 10 year old daughter suggested that I have an HO train that runs through the house on a timer. When it's time to wake up in the morning; the train would come into each room and toot it's horn.
I think Hawaii used to have a narrow gauge railroad 40 years ago. Sounds like are remnants are gone.
Unspoken expectations are premeditated failures.

Hi Neil, I was in Hawaii over Christmas and took a pic of the train at the Dole plantation. I didn't ride it, it looks like an old steamer but she wasn't smoking. I suspect it was converted to some other form of power. I'm on the road for work this week but will try to post a pic of the train this weekend. Tom Found one on the computer.

Just got back,
The Dole train is not converted from anything. It is a Diesel powered, built from the ground up for there use. We did take the ride though, it was interesting.
There was some old narrow track on the west side of the island. I did a little investagation and found it was used to carry sugar cane. But when the industry folded the train was abandonded.
