Hi Everybody-
Discovered this site a few weeks ago and have been lurking. I've been in HO since I was five in 1966, starting with what I think was the "Road Rambler" Santa Fe set. I managed to not destroy the Morrell's reefer. My interest in vintage Tyco has been reignited after finding some new in box Varney, Athearn, and Tyco stuff at a recent TCA show and on Ebay.

I have been wondering when Tyco red boxes switched from having the logo in the lower right corner of the box to top center. I have searched the forum and haven't quite found the answer. Any help would be appreciated!

I don't know the date, although Tyco has a history of overlap - so it may be a year or couple of years. Someone's sure to know, though.

Welcome aboard!

Thanks, Tyco Nut! Appreciate the response. C'mon guys! I know I'm new here and it is the holidays, but somebody must have some info on my red box question. I am guessing that the switch must have been around 69.

The box transition was 1965-66. There was also a change in couplers. From the screw in all metal to the screw in plastic. This has been determined upon examination of original boxed sets
from that time frame.

Hope this helps,

Ricky

Thanks Ricky!

I thought the transition was about that time. I remember my set had the red box, not the white UP GP-20 box, but I couldn't recall for sure what the rolling stock boxes were like.
