Back in the early 1960s Rivarossi made American style box cars for the first time. Makeing them for AHM and Lionel at the same tme. I have a odd one here. It is clearly a American box car but no American couplers. Like it was made for a European market but found its way here somehow. Most likely for Americans who like to run European trains. It is a nice looking B&O, silver and blue Sentinel service box car, with a very different coupler. frank

I bought an AHM car in 1972 that had a set of those couplers in the box as optional couplers. It had typical talgo AHM trucks. Are the trucks on yours typical talgo AHM trucks or are the couplers body mounted?

Ray This car has sprung trucks. If you look at both in the photo you'll see the left side is missins a spring. It and others that I have came with these sprung trucks. The coupler is on a arm that clips on top of the trucks center support. This top support is made of sheet metal. The side frames are of plastic. And of course the springs. The is a unique truck made by Rivarossi. frank

Hi Frank. That Rivarossi Boxcar is older then 1960s. It was made in the 1950s. Rivarossi made the Identical Boxcar for Lionel in 1957. The only difference is the couplers and the "L" on the side of the car. Rivarossi Made the couplers seperate, so they could use either style coupler. Later, in the beginning of the 1960's when AHM started importing Rivarossi, the Trucks changed to the type Ray mentioned. . It is also Interesting to note the cars also had coupler pockets molded in the bottoms for body mounted couplers, That did not appear until much later in the AHM years. Carl.

Thanks for the info Guys. The bottom of the car I am trying to find trucks for looks like the one VintageHO posted photos of. It is NYC though.
