I would definately like to know more about this one. Pictures tell you about all that I can. Curious as to the date these were made.

Aristocraft...

...I'll go through my library and see if I can dig up an ad with that one in it.

Todd,

Very nice piece! Most of these diecast loco's made in Japan by "New One" have turned to dust because of metal rot. And you have the wood box lined with velvet, all very nice!

Aristocraft was a trade name of Irwin and Nat Polk, brothers who operated a retail hobby store in NYC... General Hobbies Inc (GHC), of Philadelphia was the importing and distribution company that the Polk's and others had a big interest in. It was run by Bernie Paul. Some other tradenames used by GHC were Gem, H. O. Train Co (HOTCO) and Asociated Hobby Manufacturing (AHM).

This particular model was imported in the late fifties, early sixties Polks Catalog of 1958, page 8

Yes, thank you to the second poster! That is indeed an Aristo-Craft 0-4-0.

Although they were made in Japan, they are not of full brass construction. They are built much the same way as Tyco/Mantua, Varney, Bowser and John English metal locomotive kits.

The Aristo-Craft line of the early-to-mid-'60s is extensively showcased in a reference work called The Complete Guide To Model Railroading. I forget the author, but some Googlin' would help. David somebody?
