Some may think it's a bit early, but I feel we should have the Christmas spirit all year round. ( I guess we could have a Baa-Humbug day, maybe April 15?) Anyway Trains for the Holidays.

Here's a quick shot of our Christmas train. It started with a scarce K-Line O-27 EMD MP-15 that was painted exclusively as an award for Belt Railway of Chicago employees, one of my first ebay prizes. Added a few cars to start, then one each year for the girl(s) to load. Last year they took the figures out of the manger to ride on the train, but after a while we could not find the Baby Jesus. Finally found him cozy inside the Chessie boxcar, LOL. The fake snow on the train is more than we usually see around here.

This year we added the building... a Plasticville feed mill we decorated, and I added some synchronized music/lights salvaged out of a sales display from GE / Lowe's. It's pretty awesome. I'd upload video, but don't have a .mov editor.

Ray, I can't believe it, but it looks like you have the same manger set that my parents had when I was a kid. Even the figures are the same. They probably still have it in storage.

Hey Ray:
I think a Bah-Humbug day would be great. Big sales, "Have a miserable-Bah-Humbug day!" Give coal to people (can be ground to HO scale for our steamers!) and some really annoying, tacky music starting about 6 weeks before the day. Yup works for me!
in all seriousness, though I don't celebrate Christmas anymore since i'm neither a Christian or an "Overt-Consumer" my problem stems from the fakes who act nice for a brief period each year instead of being decent peple year round...
I think a meaningful observance of Christmas is a good idea, but that requires modesty in action. Something we see little of at Christmas...
just my thoughts. I actually hope all your families have a wonderful Christmas and something truly special happens to/for you this Yuletide!
Pax, Gareth PS: ray the other one (Commadore) is what a windup?

The train is probably a little closer to O scale than HO. It's a actually a Disney "Monorail Playset". More of a toy than a model, but it's still loads of fun, and works very well for "around the tree" service I've tried HO around the tree, but without the track and scenery being fixed to a board like Shaygetz's, it's way to flimsy.
If you search for these on youtube, you'll find vids of people who make big set-ups around their trees.

Finally got some xtra pics and video. I should have taken a "before" pic of the store display... but I have a habit of jumping in and not wanting to pause for "how to" pics. I actually paid $10 for the display, because we and the manager both thought it was a full set-up of the $140 kit. Turned out it wasn't but it was still a great deal just for the custom trees, lights, adapters, project boxes, thick sheet styrene, lights, control knobs, and everything else it came with (one of the dummy "wireless AC adapter" boxes became the control base for Bethany's proton pack wand, so this display has been a gold mine beyond my first ideas). I mean this thing was custom-made *elaborate* and I couldn't believe it was just going to be discarded. And it very nearly WAS the full kit less the "wireless transmitter" adapters.
Anyway. The house looks assembles like a Plasticville (Bachmann) kit but apparently is sold by Walthers? It was a poorly-painted crappy looking salvage find from the haunt that worked out beautifully. I used the crystalline panels from the display to glaze the windows. Destroyed the display to hack together the bits that would fit sensibly inside, modified the house to fit the speaker and control knobs, etc. Made some trunks for the "trees" out of real branches and washers. My wife got a bunch of scrapbooking decor for the house that worked out great.
Music in the vid kicks in around the :50 mark. The loads on the train are Bethany and Beverly's handiwork. No, Christmas isn't really "about" this kind of stuff, but it sure is a neat display and the kids (and parents) enjoy it...
...now all I need is a decent vid cam. Oops.

I asked for a little something for Christmas this year, and I think it arrived today, but I'm not gonna peek! Needless to say, it's something I think you guys will like. I'll get some pictures and maybe a video up after Christmas. I'm giddy with antci...pation.
Until then, do enjoy this Christmas classic from Wizzard. It's played to death over in the UK...

That probably would've solved the track problem, but the trains themselves were being knocked over and kicked! Not to mention the attraction that the cat had to the HO sclae trees

First - I will actually pay good real money for that Dole car from the Shop Rite set. Pineapple is my other favorite and my wife and I LOVE touring the Dole plantation on O'ahu - especially getting Dole Whip. A pineapple split is the BOMB. SO much sugar you go into a coma. Pineapple slices instead of banana, topped with pineapple Dole whip (3 "scoops") topped by pineapple chunks.
Second - this is my family's Christmas train. My mom hand-painted these ceramic locomotive, cars and caboose, fired them, and the cars are filled with M&Ms of the plain, peanut and almond varieties each year. Opened and closed. Totally my favorite Christmas train.
