Here's an old one. 99.9% sure it's made by Hobbyline. Baltimore & Ohio #1020 FM Diesel Switcher. I was positive until looking at all the hobbyline material I could get my hands on. These FM diesel switchers were amongst their line-up for most of the 1950's.
The literature states they're all 8 wheel drive units. These pictures tell a different story. Mine is 4 wheel drive but runs great none-the-less. It's too bad they cast the body the way they did, that seam running down the center of the loco... Well, it would look a lot nicer without it.
I see that the LotW and the CotW threads have unofficially gained a theme for the week. Let's make it official. I would say Hobbyline, FM switchers or B&O would fit nicely with this.

That is a nice locomotive. I'll play along, even though I think sticking to the theme discriminates against those of us with small collections. Here's a Life-Like B&O Chessie:

It's my daughter's locomotive. As with most Life-Likes I've encountered, it runs best at high speed. That's actually a good thing, because that's how she likes to run it.

Here's a Hobbyline FM. Well, at least the shell is. It sits on a modified Athearn chassis.

I choose to ignore the other words and just focus on the one
AHM Plymouth switcher. Originally last week I stated this basket case blew up after 10 mins of running. Well I pulled the motor apart and cleaned the brushes off, and what do you know it runs. Since its REALLY beat, I was actually debating a repaint with B&O as the roadname. I think it would look really good all dressed out in dark blue with a yellow band around the bottom. It needs a ton of work, though I was kinda looking for a switcher project so this fits the bill. Probably going to dump all the handrails and make body mount ones. And yes it has a new coupler, though the pilot on the opposite side it broke and needs fixed.

B&O eh? OK, you baited it out of me

An Allentown find with a funny story: These and the 4-car matching chrome consist were for sale in a junk booth at a pretty attractive price... but not packaged well, and the observation car was pretty beat up. And I saw this halfway through my first pass during the interminable swelling crush that show was for the first couple hours, before I made it halfway through...
So do I get it and risk finding something else - maybe even a better example of same - later on and wish I still had the money (recall my budget was limited)? Wanting to make sure I didn't miss anything later, I gambled to buzz through the rest of the aisles first, then meet up with some friends and get their opinion before going back for it.
Except I forgot none other than NYC, aka "King Bargain Supreme" was somewhere out there trolling the aisles as well.
So no sooner had we discussed that I should go back for them, and I was turning on my heels to do just that, when BAM! NYC finally walks up to join the party and says "Look what I just found...!"
Some joking gnashing of teeth later, they ended up coming home with me. But I voluntarily shared some box lot spoils with NYC as a "fetcher's fee", LOL.
So remember folks: as often as you can have "buyer's remorse", "lagger's remorse" can sometimes be more painful...

Another one from the swap meet, a Bachmann UP Mike. I had one of these in the past, a B&O actually, that I had sold and regretted ever since. This one appears to have an upgraded drive that runs very well...nice, quiet and powerful. I just like the chunky look with that Wooten firebox, Elesco feedwater heater and vanderbilt tender...

When it's time for that to part with you, remember who to call. That's a bit tougher to find than I think you realize, all 6 pieces no less. Handing it over was tough too, should be regarded much like an ancient custom, like a sacrifice to the Tyco Wizard.
As for the original engine posted in this topic, is it possible this is a John English Line using Hobbyline parts?

Crap I should have waited before posting my dumb switcher. Enough B&O for ya?
Rivarossi 2-8-8-0 I picked up at a show today. I posed it with my IHC 2-10-2 in the background because despite being years apart they look really close. Unfortunately, the IHC has enough power to pick up the mallet and spin it over its head. Where as the mallet seems to have some odd motor gremlin. It runs good at first, but after a few mins it slows down. If you put cars behind it seems to struggle with them more than it should. Still, its not a bad looking engine and it runs nice over our bumpy track work. Anyone have advice for remotoring these?
BTW burlington77, I have that same engine it was the first engine I ever owned and is still with me. Yes when its out we jokingly call it our fast freight engine lol. Down the line I'm honestly debating painting a few passenger cars in Chessie colors and making a commuter train out of it.

Thanks. Another thing I noticed is both of the other original HobbyLine's pictured here have their logo printed on the shells. I do of course like Ray's NYC. Mine has no inidcation of manufacturer anywhere that I can find. The shell is undeniable though.

I have a few of these myself, I don't think any of them run anymore. Probably needs the same solution - take apart and clean. Although I think in the case of the one I just checked, it was missing a brush on one side. Hard to run with one brush! I need to find a place that sells a "brush" kit with various ones , like 2-3 of each kind, since I have so many kinds of loco's. Anyway, nice pic! Hope to get mine "re"-running again too! - Jerry -
