Looking at the roster of sharks I see some notable groups left out.
Pennsy had a sizeable fleet of RF16s in both A and B units. The A units were 2000-2027, 9594-9599, 9708-9745 and the B units were 2000B-2026B, 9594B-9598B, 9708B-9744B even numbers only, for a total of 70 A units and 35B units. This is the majority of the RF16 production, and pennsy had by far the largest fleet of sharks, more than everybody else combined.
Also of note are the 51 6 axle export versions for Argentina. They are not as tall as the American ones, but they lasted in regular service until at least 1989, long after the last 2 AMerican ones were permanently out of service. At least one of the Argentine sharks still runs in a museum.

Shark Master has scored big on Ebay. Got the original Tyco Streamliner Set, with the diecast "pennant stripe" Shark for $70 - not a bad price. Glad to have added this unique piece of history to my collection. Here are some pics.

Please enjoy the following video of it in action on RETRO TYCO!

Well, that answered my question. So, your Shark could date to 1958. Someone took care of it- it still has it’s air horns.

Yep, except I replaced the horn. It was broken, but that is expected after many years of use and visible wear to the paint.

I posted this in the LOTW thread a while ago, but I think it belongs here. Factory paint? Powered A&B units.

Interesting finds. Being the "Shark Master," I've not seen a Tyco/Mantua metal Shark in this scheme yet. However, I have seen ones in this black over orange scheme, which many have said is one of the original schemes. Looks similar.

Abe mentions this color scheme in an earlier post....
"I also have another Sharknose engine from cabinet that is a black & gray paint scheme similar to the orange & brown paint scheme on another metal sharknose that was sold in sets but uncataloged for dome reason,"
Sound like the one I have. These really look like factory paint, or an extremely good custom job.

Recently, I obtained the diecast TYCO Pennsylvania RR "Tuscan Red" Shark....in its original paint. I did replace the horn, but wow. I am so happy to finally have this! The "Tuscan Red" truck covers, while unrealistic, are SO awesome.

Those truck covers remind me of patent leather shoes, like a NYC businessman headed to Wall Street. To think this is a piece that was produced when the PRR was a leading Flag in railroads, well, that is beyond cooldom. Nice addition to the fleet. Now, the $64,000 question...does it run?

Depends on the different models. The later diecast Sharks had screw-in trucks....the older ones had a metal plate that connected both trucks inside the diecast Shell.
To take it apart, you can unscrew the bottom plate on the motor truck, to access the gears.

I saw a vintage Tyco metal set on Thursday at a New Jersey train store.

On sale for $130 dollars. I did not buy it. I just photographed the set.

That's a cool find. It is interesting it's not selling. The demographic is shutting down?
