Says a lot from many perspectives. Interesting railroad news.

I was reading that this morning. Another one of the things that was noted was Buffet apparently has a large stake in a few energy companies. Buying BNSF in a way puts the two together. A way to move the coal and way to use it. They spoke alot in the article about competition with trucks. I think this will largely be true once the economy recovers and when gas climbs again. Only thing they left out (and I wonder how much of a factor it will be) is the goverment looking heavily into high speed rail over the next few years. Obviously every major rail carrier stands to be involved in this, I wonder if that was another reason behind Buffet's purchase.

There has been alot of rail news around my area also. Just the other day there was ANOTHER story on turning a currently under used rail route that cuts though the heart of the city into a commuter line.

The major push behind this is cost. The rail is a existing & little used infrastructure that happens to be in all the right locations. Where as the city's current project of making the light rail/subway system tunnel go under the river (seriously, they bored right under it) and extensions onto several highways has spiraled in cost.

Very Interesting... Thank you for posting this Todd and for your follow up Chris... I may have more comments after I look at the stalled rail projects here around Philadelphia.

Just realized that all three of us are from Pennsylvania!

If you can't fix it with a hammer, you've got an electrical problem.

This story has high interest in the Dallas and Ft Worth area. In the Nov 3rd Business Section of the Dallas Morning News were several stories with some interesting pictures. Part of this story is a picture made in the Ft Worth yards.

It is especially interesting as an example of weathering, rusting, color fading and graffiti.

On the TV news last night they showed a list of other companies that Buffett has a significant interest - including Union Pacific - and a bit strange one - Dairy Queen.

Other pictures in other stories included on of the man who is the main operator of the intermodel crane loaded, but not the crane. Also was shown the large tracking center with multiple computers at each desk and a series of giant screens across one wall.

Cheers
