Hello everyone. Well I guess its time to check in with the group. My name is John and I am infected with this sickness I call the love of trains. Its so deep inside of me you could not cut it out if you tried. As my name implies I have more than one scale and can not help it. My friends just can not understand it. As most have done, I started out with good ol Tyco train sets as a kid. I have N, HO, On30, O27 and Large Scale trains. Currently I am building a N scale layout over my workbench in the garage and just started an HO layout after many years of withdrawls. I had a super detailed HO layout in the garage for many years but it was taken down when I got my Jeep in 05 as she needed a place to stay in the garage.
For the last 10 years or so I have mainly focused on Large Scale. I am a member at the garden railroad at Fairplex in Pomona Ca. I have been into kitbashing for years and paint many of my own loco's. Several years ago I made a one of a kind 1:29 scale U50 in So Pac colors. It took me 10 months to make and she is a great runner. I call her the Beast and she has a pretty good size fan club out at the layout. This past fair she got lots of run time and amazed people by her ability to pull a 44 car coal train on the line with grades by herself. The coal train regular power is three SD45's. Here is a roster shot of her on my backyard loop. She is 99% hand made.

I also made a large scale F45 painted in Santa Fe. She still needs to have detail parts added. F45's have always been my favorite loco. Its made off of an Aristo Craft SD45.

I have a large fleet of Tyco and Mantua steam loco's that will call the new HO layout home when its done. I am going old school on this layout. I have done the super detailed layouts in the past and with this one my main goal is to be able to just run it and enjoy it. Its going to have code 100 track and snap switches. I will post photo's of it soon.
Thanks Tony for this site and all your other reference sites. I have been a lurker here since Dec 2006 and appreciate all the contributions the members have added to the site over the years. Turning 45 soon and still love my trains.

| Thanks for the kind words. I actually started with my N scale Con cor U50 and scaled it up. I am a draftsman and I first did a drawing of her and printed it out in 1:29. I have many video's of the U50 running on my Youtube page. Just search CAJONJP and you will see her in action at this years Fair. I have spent over 25 years chasing and photographing trains in Cajon pass and CAJONJP is the plate I got for the Jeep. And yes the F45 is in need of final details and decals. I painted the Santa Fe by hand on the side and the cigar band on the nose does need its Santa Fe also. Got to get some decals for that and the numbers.

Holy moly that U50 is gorgeous! I hope your building skills are just as impressive in HO scale, I love seeing kitbashed and scratchbuilt pieces above all else.

Welcome aboard Toomanyscales -- glad your here - what took u so long? L-O-L . I too have g scale and 027 set from 1977 and some n scale. on my G scale- i am using Aristocraft stainless steel track. I have an Aristocraft CSX dash9 locomotive and a few cars. G scale is probably the most expensive in model trains isay because the good stuff can run in the hundreds and for only one pc where as an $100.00 in ho or n scale can get you few things depending upon what you buy. Did you make that bridge your SF loco is on? It is a cool bridge. Look forward to seeing more of your trains.

Well guys thanks so much for the nice words. The bridges are made out of stainless steel and have been in the elements for about 6 years now. I am the draftsman at a custom stainless shop so I got a little help from them :).
I have several large scale projects documented on Photobucket if you care to look at the step by step photo's.
First is the U50 http://s609.photobucket.com/albums/tt173/CAJONJP/U50/
A repaint of a Bachmann 10 wheeler from Xmas paint This one is still getting worked on http://s609.photobucket.com/albums/tt173/CAJONJP/10%20Wheeler/
A Aristo Craft Mikado that I added Santa Fe details to This one is done but needs decals http://s609.photobucket.com/albums/tt173/CAJONJP/Mikado/
The F45 project This one needs final details and decals http://s609.photobucket.com/albums/tt173/CAJONJP/F45/
And some shots of my old HO layout http://s609.photobucket.com/albums/tt173/CAJONJP/Old%20HO%20layout/
Thanks again for the interest in my crazy projects I tend to do once and a while.
I will post some shots of the new layout being built once its farther along. Just benchwork and cork as of now.
John
( hope the links work, kinda new to this posting thing )

Well I'd been meaning to ask about how you made the U50, but I suppose I should look at your links instead now. "Beast" is right - I can't get over how much it dwarfs the boxcar behind it.
Love the F45. If decals are hard to come by in that scale, I may be able to help. I design and print my own stuff so if you need something let me know.
