Love the sleek and shiny Matchbox version. What's the story on the Matchbox release? And is this the same "Matchbox" that I would think of in respect to toy autos? When was the Matchbox steam engine issued?

| hi tony c i was told it was released with american market in mind as can be seen by the spelling of collectibles as opposed to collectables, you could say its the same matchbox company, but in i believe its 5 reincarnation,as its now owned by mattel, train i believe was released in the late 90s,mica the club did not have much to say about it as most of the members are car and lorry orientated, shame as its a good locomotive with a decent motor, very quiet, one improvement they made was to the tender light,it works,

Hey Ken,
Southern Locomotives of the class Ps-4 carried their bells on the top of the smoke box doors. The only one I’ve seen is in The Smithsonian in Washington, DC.

Hi guys. Like Loopy said. It appears that the bell on the Southern engines were on the smokebox door. These pictures were taken when I was at The Smithsonian in Washington, DC. a few years back. Loopy, when was your picture taken..?? The room looks empty.. Carl

Carl, the photo was taken in the early sixties right after they had finished constructing the last wall (The building was sorta constructed around the loco)
Ken, Carl and others interested there is an article at http://americanhistory.si.edu/ONTHEMOVE/collection/object_15.html which is where I found the image. This part of the Smithsonian is closed for renovations at the moment.
While I’m thinking about it, the Mantua model, with its bell astride the boiler and those Boxpak drivers, is more appropriate for B & O livery.
No matter what the livery, this is a great set Ken!
