Heys guys. I have an intact decal that fell off the nose of my Rivarrossi E-8. What's the best way of sticking it back on? Thanks.

I have used thinned "Elmer's type" white glue on model car decals with success. Just carefully apply it to the back and replace it. It drys clear. Yours looks like it has a paper backing?

Cheez, I have used rubber cement to adhere signs to the building on my layout. If there is any over coverage it rubs off easily once dried.

I'm pretty sure you can use Micro-Sol or Micro-Set to adhere a decal in much the same (original) manner. While Tom's rubber cement idea is good in theory, I worry that it might be too thick, and that rubbing away the excess could flake and crackle the film. But I'll admit I haven't tried that. I would be one to try Bob's diluted white glue idea first.
Whatever you try, apply the adhesive to the loco first - again, to minimize handling and damage to the decal - then lay the decal on it. Gently blot away excess adhesive and let dry.
Once you do get it affixed again, you could seal the whole think with Dull- or Gloss-coat, which should prevent it from ever coming off in the future.

I just reglued the decal using white glue. I think the rubber cement would've been a little more permanent, but I've seen it "melt" paint before, so I don't really wanna risk it. The glue seems to be working ok. I guess I'll see once it dries how well it actually works. The decal goes over top of the handle beneath the headlight, so it's not the best surface to be sticking things to...
AF: I'm pretty sure the decal is printed on a clear backing, although I could be wrong.
Thanks for the input guys!

Cheez,
Is the paper backing still on the decal? If so, why not dip it in water and place it on the front of the loco?

The engine came from the factory with the decal already on it. It just fell off the engine in the box. I'm not sure how it was originally attached, but I think dipping it in water would have just ruined it The white glue is still holding it just fine though, so I'm not gonna go messing with it

That's a funny shot, Cheez. It looks like your E-unit was incognito and lost it's fake mustache.
