"Where's my Part?!?"
"Dawgonnit! It just plopped into the deep-shag... "
"Blast it!!! I knew the shop-vac was too powerful!!!
For the parts you can't retrieve, there is hope... I discovered a source for those parts... parts you thought you'd either have to remanufacture or hope and pray you find it at a swap-meet... or, having to buy a second loco or piece of rolling stock just to satisfy your sense of well being instead of cloning or shelving it on your "dusty-space-of-shame-'cuz-I-can't-fix-it-anymore."
okay, it's an eBay source... bear with me, eh? Try it:

Assorted traction tires to super Zoo accessories.
19 pages with 192 items on each page. This is a single dealer.
If this posting is inappropriate, I shall remove it.

I don't have a one track mind. It depends on the turn-out. "I love your catenary!" Is that a power-trip or just another pick-up line?

The problem I see with that seller is he doesn't know what he is selling. Bachmann parts as Mantua, AHM as Athearn. I know what make loco these are fore but how many others do? http://cgi.ebay.ca/HO-K4-PACIFIC-6-WHEEL-TRUCKS-W-DRIVE-RODS_W0QQitemZ380166268812QQcmdZViewItemQQptZModel_RR_Trains?hash=item5883ace78c&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14
How about these Rivarossi number boards? http://cgi.ebay.ca/RIVAROSSI-HO-REPLACEMENT-PARTS-8254-NUMBER-BOARDS_W0QQitemZ350262798883QQcmdZViewItemQQptZModel_RR_Trains?hash=item518d4a2a23&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14 There are alot of hard to find parts listed but you'll have to sift through 75 pages of listings to find what you need.

That seller has been mentioned many times here. He DOES have a lot of stuff. And he lives so close to me I really wonder just where he's getting all of it, because there ain't jack around here in most places you look.
Biggest problem is lousy-to-rude customer service, and ridiculous shipping. I consider him to be a source of last resort. Unless you like paying $10 for shipping, only to get a box with a $3 postmark. Especially his "mandatory insurance" he used to charge for but NEVER apply (as happened to me several times). After the last, blatantly outrageous straw (I combined 4 auctions, got charged a combined $12 shipping fee with "insurance" for a box that arrived beat-up with a $2.67 parcel-post label) I complained - and got banned from future bidding. So I made a new account just in case...
Ebay has taken steps to clamp down on such things (the insurance bit for one). My last purchase using my "spare" account was a bit more reasonable and *gasp* actually arrived via the Priority Mail I paid for! But I'd be wary. They do incredible volume, something like hundreds of listings a day it seems - but have the worst feedback I've ever seen for a powerseller with that kind of volume, and it actually has gotten worse. I think the "negative feedback-banning" scares people, as it's worth noting: he DOES have a LOT of rare, HTF, random, kinds of items.
IF you can find them, as Ray said.
Caveat Emptor...

The guy is a crook. I was taken by him after paying for a Tyco Anniversary car.

It appears that this guy bought out Golf Manor Hobbies stock after they went belly-up. His shipping is ridiculous, but I weigh it against the rarity of the parts. I've ordered quite a few times from him, but I know what I'm buying even when he doesn't, and that's worked to my advantage on more than a few purchases.
He does respond to my questions, but I generally have to wait a day or two for a response. At least his shipping is fast, and he packs well. Some of the Rivarossi parts just aren't found anywhere else. As with any purchase, caveat emptor -- know what you're buying, and it's worth.

Ahhh...proof that the apple doesn't fall far from the tree...I dealt with Golf Manor in the past---and reaffirmed the idea that, if I ever need a part for anything again, I'll troll swap meets and train shows for years before I'd ever deal with those jewels of humanity again.

No kidding. I bought from them because they were universally praised by guys over on the Model Railroader forum, and man did they rip me off. They charged about $10 in shipping for one set of drivers, which was more than they quoted, and cost about $2 to send. To top it off, the guy ruined the NWSL axle gear he installed, and didn't quarter it properly. I at least got them to send me a new NWSL gear set free of charge, but I vowed never again.
The AHM guys I know said they would just pick an arbitrary price to charge you, based on their whim at the moment.

There's is also seller Micah7306, who is probably another Golf Manor alum, but at least he offers free shipping on some items.
