I know it's inconsiderate of me to ask to identify something without a picture but, maybe it won't really matter in this case. I have several AHM GP18's.
The ones that are in their original condition have road number: 2654.
I have three AHM, Santa Fe ,red/silver GP18s with this number. I also have a
a red/silver Santa Fe AHM GP18 with the factory paint job and road number: 2655.
Is there any real significance to this road number? I have never seen it on any other AHM geep.

When I was a kid, I got a CNW set that included two GP18's - one powered and one "dummy." If I remember correctly, they had consecutive numbers. Perhaps the same was done in your situation?

Thanks for the info. I only have the shell for the 2655 so I can't confirm but, sounds like you've got the answer.

I have a Frisco GP-18 made by the same manufacturer with 923 on the cab sides, but the Frisco never had any GP-18s in real life. They had a bunch of GP-7s numbered from 500 to somewhere in the 600 range. The 923 on the cab would have been used on one of the large fleet of SD-45s that the Frisco owned. I could modify the GP-18 to a GP-7 by grinding off the 48" fans on the long hood and replace them with two 36" fans on each end of the long hood since the Frisco's GP-7s did not have dynamic brakes, and change the 9 to a 5 by blotting white paint on that number making it a 523, which is more accurate for the GP-7.
