Nice consist, Frank.I especially like the variations in colors on the coaches, which gives them a more "realistic" look to them.

Stephen That goes to show you how Bachmann painted their cars. To me, like you say, the variation of color is what is seen in real life. Some cars are newer then others. frank

My Hornby Gresley Teak coaches, for example, are from the late 1970s - early 1980s. Therefore some of them lot quite different from other ones due to age and dirt from all those years. But, again, it makes them look realistic. It makes a pretty good excuse if you ask me.

* As wks , Richard reminded me it is almost Thanksgiving day. Time for the yearly get together of the old timers. Last night and this morning a large exodus of locomotives occurred as a matching group of old timers arrived from the surrounding branches of the PGW and its surrounding railroads. As of now the old time train passenger trains sent out are not scheduled to return yet. In their cities rail fests fill the weekends. soon after they and others from around the country will be arriving after Thanksgiving is over. So far about 40 locomotives fill the roundhouse area here at the Frankford shops in Bergen point., the yards are empty. The main office building next to storage track #1 becomes a Hotel to help with the influx of little people joining the festivities. toptrain

Dang Top, you've got about 8 more locomotives than I do.
I'm working on it tho. Have a bad case of the IGH syndrome.
In case you're wondering, ordinary people have the OCD whereas model railroaders get the "I Gotta Have" syndrome.

Well the secret is out. Though I am certain I have said the purpose of the layout, Shaggy ( Don) got it right. Photography and exercise for the locomotives and trains. A place to showcase the locomotives. The turntable being the center of it all. The 21 storage tracks can store a lot of engines. The no particular set up of buildings in the town of Bergen point lets me change the era easily. By just replacing the buildings. *I am thinking of a little change. Tossing around the ides of making a new (second) Locomotive service area. I am think of making a new engine service facility and putting it directly on top the old one. I wont remove the tracks or the wiring. it will remain. I will just lay a new board over the engine area, not the mainlines. And build my new facility there on this new board, on top of the old one. I'll still run on the same mainlines, and use the same yards. They will just tie in to another Locomotive service area. Any time I want I can just remove the overlay and run the old layout. I don't see why it wont work. Still just a idea. frank

Frank, I haven't seen many layouts where a big coal loader seemed appropriate. With that livery you have that big coal loader looks right in place on your layout. That's a pretty cool idea about the overlay. I'll be looking forward to see the engineering side of that (e.g., since I have a really small space, I'm still thinking of ways to make it work better).

Barry I have never read where anyone has ever done this. I don't know why the idea popped into my head. I know I want to make a copy of CNJ Ashley shops in the 1885 to 1900 period for my old time locomotives. I guess in knowing I have no place to put another layout, something in me wants to combine the two. I'll just roll with it and see what happens. I am breaking new ground in the layout construction end. A few ideas have come to me about handling the problem of joining a new locomotive service area to a existing layout by just covering over the existing area to be changed, and not eliminating it from later use as it is or was. So crafty use of raise track in the original layout may allow for the conversion to a second service area. For all I know nothing will allow me to do this, and my ideas wont work. It is just a idea. It would be nice if it worked. The challenge is to make it work. We will see. Success or failure is unimportant. Giving the ides a chance can be cool. frank

hi John. Glade you seen my few words to you there. There are a lot of technical people there. The early info about their on line magazine made it seem a good source of kitbashing and scratch building information. it hasn't happened. It would be nice. Maybe next month. The chance for a good kitbashing article can always be there. I wont give up on them.

Frank, another possibility to bounce around in your head might be to make the current engine facility removable and build another so you could lift one out and drop the other in, kind of like the scenery sections on Walt's layout.
With such a setup, the track could be at the same elevation regardless of which one you were using and you could have as many drop in sections as you want to build.

Naaaaa Shaggy ! To do that I would have to disconnect the old wiring. I am leaving that in place, in working condition. To go back to the old way would then require a rewiring with some sort of disconnecting plug. The new stuff I am doing will not be a addition to the old control panel. Switches will be concealed on the new on surface on new board in one of the shop buildings. The only connection will be two wire throttle power. In real life no ground is level so the small raise should not effect anything. When I want to switch back , disconnect the 2 wires and remove the new surface board, replace the roundhouses, and run the trains.

He's my Grandson. Johnny-Boy . Yes things get messed up. Yes I feel bad about that but yes Jonny just a little boy who says he's a medium boy. They'd probably get broken anyway. I'm very clumsy. I get a lot from the love he brings. frank

Well the English locomotives are returning to Frankford roundhouse for their reunion now in early February 2015. The streamliners and other 4-6-2 locomotives are here now. 0-4-0 to 4-6-0 and on to 2-10-0. haven't arrived yet. More than half of these locos came in trade from Catford Ken. Thanks again Kenny. frank

Look at all those old British 00's.There's something about the style of British locomotives that are so majestic, if you will.

Another layout photo shows a pile of locos still to be put away. A fancy blue streamliner sits on the turntable. It is just running out there now. frank
