I see several of these on eBay, but have not quite known exactly what they are. I have no idea when they are from or who made them. Here is a pic from a current auction: /tyco/forum/uploaded/DJdeTrainman/!BVOQuDg!Wk~$(KGrHgoOKiUEjlLmWrB3BKRZuKHHbg~~_1.JPG I don't think I'm gonna try on this auction, since I'm short on moo-lah, but would like to know more about the set, if anyone else does...
(PS- Here's the link to that specific auction: http://cgi.ebay.com/1-PLANTERS-PEANUTS-BATTERY-POWERED-HO-GAUGE-TRAIN-SET_W0QQitemZ180374247559QQcmdZViewItemQQptZModel_RR_Trains?hash=item29ff249887&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_trkparms=65%3A12%7C66%3A2%7C39%3A1%7C72%3A1205%7C240%3A1318%7C301%3A1%7C293%3A1%7C294%3A50)
*Edit: Spelled "battery" wrong, along w/ other stupid mistakes...

That looks to be an adaptation of some tooling that's been around for a while, but was originally some kind of off brand made in Hong Kong stuff. I had that engine and a German 2-6-0T in similar boxes. Model Power had the dies for a while and sold both with tenders, looking really goofy. This engine looks to be possibly Spanish origin, and was sold originally as an 0-4-0T. Both tend to have the drive gear become loose on the axle.
I'd say it's the most recent incarnation of these dies, which would put it to the mid-90s or maybe newer.
