Me and my friend have been on a NYC binge lately...
Its a Proto 2000 kit. And in doing this kit it reaffirms my belief that I need to stop buying kits lol. I broke so many things. Then to top it off I decided to hit it with dullcoat, and it dried really weird. Has a white odd dusting now.

Chris,
Those P2K kits are notorious for parts not fitting properly and detail too small to work with. I haven't built one myself, but I keep reading threads by modelers who finally ended up throwing them across the room.

That would be humidity in the air when you were painting it...DulCote reeeeeally hates that.
My CoftheW...well, cars...
A Father's Day treat and only 50 cents apiece...

This is a Tyco Racing Super Cars Twin Pack #8980T from 1990...

I haven't found the set these go to, they glow but they don't have headlights so they're not part of the Nite-Glo Racing series that I know of...

Nelson, no need to throw it. Thing would just break up in mid air anyways haha. Seriously things like the brake lines are uber tiny and broke when I tried to get them out. And 90% of the holes are too small for the parts to be installed in so I use a pin to at least open them up a little more. I can appreciate the detail on such a piece, but its not for me. Only reason I bought it was because I like the P&LE and I didn't realize it was a kit till I got it home haha.
Shaygetz - You know I've heard about that before, but never really experienced it till now Probably no fix for it I take it? Awesome COTW! My brother had a nice collection of older slot cars. I currently have his parts box here and several chassis. I'm converting one slot car chassis into a galloping goose type MOW vehicle. I actually got a rear axle & rail wheels and perpendicular gear to fit in the back and mesh with the drive gear at the end of the motor. Just gotta solder some electrical pickups and do something to help hide the front trucks.

Shaygetz those last 2 vettes ARE part of a Nite-Glo set the lambo I'd like to build full scale & a full sized Galloping Goose but mine would work on either standard or 3 foot narrow

I beleive the two Vettes are from the Super Cliff Hangers set. I still have my brothers 2 cars from his set.

| Appreciate the help guys...I well remember the Cliffhangers set---I didn't believe for a minute they could do it and I was already a rivet counter by then. Wouldn't have taken the set if you gave it to me at the time, just wasn't realistic enough to my young eyes.

I've assembled a couple P2K kits... they're not that bad, actually. To me some of the Intermountain, and even the newer Athearn RTR Undecs, can be far more tedious. The problem with the P2K kits is that the parts were designed and molded for such a precision fit, that the thickness of the PAINT on the parts suddenly ruins the fit. Typically you need to remove some paint and/or enlarge the holes a bit... but if you build an undec, you won't have that problem at all.
Now removing parts from sprues is a nightmare by any measure, no matter whose kit you build.
FWIW Branchline Blueprint kits can be just as "bad" as P2K, in my experience.
The worst kits I've ever built - the ones that make me want to jugger-launch them across the room - are Walthers and Roundhouse tanker kits. The parts are so awkward and the fit / alignments so poor, that you have a real task at hand to get one to look "perfect" - and STAY that way after you pick it up! And don't even think about storing them back in the box!

I think I know the tankers you're talking about, Tony. The ones with the plastic braces that attach to the tank's underbelly, and thread over the wires that run between the end sills? I built one and actually got them on properly, but I don't remember how. I do know it was a bloody PIA, and I've seen quite a few built with those braces left off. I can't imagine having to build a fleet of them.
I'll have to try a P2K kit one of these days. The worst I've seen are Intermountain covered hoppers... just opening the box in the LHS gave me the sweats.
