I couldn't resist. I won this on Ebay:

Anyone on here have one of these? I suspect it won't be a great runner out of the box and it likely only uses the loco wheels for electrical pickup. Shouldn't be hard to convert the tender for extra electrical pickup....

The loco arrived. It's a cute little gapper that runs surprisingly well. It doesn't hesitate on my turnouts either. I'm not sure if there is a prototype of this loco though. Some weathering, LED lighting and she'll look even better

I haven't seen that one before.
I have seen the tender behind the RSO A-3 locos.
The loco looks a bit european in design.
It might be a nice begining for an On30 project. (OOPS, did I say that out loud)

Don't forget to add some detail parts as well, the existing details look hideous to me!

But it is a neat little loco though, you won't see too many of 'em running on the Santa Fe!

It has three triangle symbols on the bottom of the loco as well as "Made in Yugoslavia" I suspect the loco is from the 1970's. Since I model transitional CP and CN, I'll likely repaint this loco to represent a railway museum and have a couple of old time passenger cars in tow and use this as a scenic train for tourists. Yes, it really needs some details including a driver and glass windows!

The three traingles are the logo for Mehano, who makes the locomotives for Model Power. I don't think Mehano started making trains for the US market until the late '80s, early '90s. I'm sure someone could tell you for sure.

It would make an interesting museum piece, that's for sure!

The tender is definitely from the RSO/Mehano A3, and it looks like they used the same drivers as well.

It has it's own coal bunker on the back of the cab, so I guess it would only need a tender as a water supply.

Hi all,

Mehano made models for the American market since the early 60's. First for AHM, later for Model Power and IHC. Their early models were the FM C-Liner and the Alco RS-3.

This little Steamer usually came without tender, I can't tell if it's original or not. The earliest catalogue I've seen which contained it was from 1963. And it was still available last year in some sets:

http://www.mehano.si/?PID=21&CID=41

By the end of last year Mehano fired 160 people and told that railway production will come to an end in Izola, Slovenia. Since then, no news from Mehano anymore...

Martin

Thanks for the info! I think mine is original as it came new in the box. It looks to have been modeled after a European locomotive.
