Hi, this is probably basic knowledge, but I am just making sure. Will all brands of HO trains run on different brands of transformers? For example, can I run a life like engine off of a tyco transformer? I know Marklin uses AC instead of DC, are there any other companies that use AC or a different level of DC then other companies? Thanks,
-Jacob

| all 12v dc controlled transformers should in theory work as each other, only difference i see is the amps, used for controlling more than one train ie double heading,or the older motors, modern locos should draw less current, older were less efficient hence drew more current, ken

Ken pretty much nailed it. Apart from Marklin, AC power is used for driving locomotives in the larger scales, like O scale.
