I like action accessories, but there aren't many out there that fit my budget and are remotely controlled. The best solution for me is to build my own. So far I have built a coal loader, and I have a pipe loader in the building process. Here is a diagram I made of how it works:
You may have to squint a little to see it . . . For some reason some of the lines didn't upload correctly
The concept is that when you turn on the motor, it will turn the bolt, which will force the nut forward, which will in turn push the arms forward which will push a load of pipes onto a waiting flatcar.
Anyway, I have an old K'nex motor that has about the right rpm. K'nex have the same concept as legos, but they are mostly rods and connectors. The rods fit into the motor, so I will sacrifice one and glue it into the motor, drill a hole into the bolt, and glue the rod into it. I may drill a hole through the bolt and the rod crossways and put some stiff coat hanger wire through it if the glue doesn't hold. Then I will attatch some kind of "arms" to the nut on the bolt. then maybe put some wire on the end of the arms and have that attached to some HO forklifts, so it looks a little realistic (The whole contraption will be hidden in a "pipe" warehouse, but when all of the pipes are out you will probably be able to see the ends of the arms, so then the forklifts will hide them.) If anyone has any suggestion or ideas shoot for it. Thanks.

Has is been built? I had a similar idea too and was close to a vise!

Yes/No I built the internals, and they worked fine, I believe I posted somewhere about them . . . but anyway I was working on a coal loader at the time as well, and ended up sacrificing the pipe loader to build the coal loader. I attached the homemade "linear actuator" to a Life-Like coal loader and came out with a fairly respectable coal loader. I'd be interested to see your version if it ever comes about. Thanks,
