Hi,
this is a DB (German Railways) Class 151 electric. They use it for heavy freight trains over here. The blue and cream paint is from the 70's and 80's, meanwhile all of them are red.

That's a Ae6/6 Class from Switzerland. It actually never ran in orange and white, all of them were green (meanwhile repainted to red). Lima had the green version as well.
Some say that this Ae6/6 was the model with the highest number of sold models in the whole Lima programme. It was incredibly popular even if there was no prototype.

That's it! There was no such livery on this type of engine in real. Swiss railways had locos in orange and white, but those were smaller Re4/4 (8 wheels).
Back to your model, are you sure it is a Lima? There should be a small white line above th upper orange band.
There was a copy of this model from Playart, Hongkong which did not feature this white line. This one usually had blue window inserts and a can motor. As this was a real copy, the hoods are interchangeable, maybe it's a Playart hood on Lima chassis...

This little engine was in service until the very early 80's on a branchline in southern Bavaria. German Railways had four of these units, but each a little bit different. All four are still existing.

Class E69 (renumbered to 169 002-3 in 1968, now again E69 02).

* This one I still have. I have two, this newer one boxed and a older version of the same loco. The older looks similar but is different due to a different drive and less detail. Also the pentagraphs are much nicer on the new one.

That's a Italian State Railways electric class E424. This type of engine is still in service in Italy, although all of them are repainted and they lost their silver center door (which actually used to be a baggage compartment). The real E424 is used for light freight and local passenger service.

Lima never made a Lima Loco...
Actually, there was no resemblace or relationship between those two Lima companies. I don't know, why the name Lima was chosen as the name for the model train maker from Italy. Still more, there is the town of Lima in Peru.....
This thread is good fun, anybody else with unknown european models?

Here are my two European electrics. The articulated and well weathered engine in the back I'm pretty sure is made by Lima...I know I asked here a while back but I have completely forgotten The red E69 is a Fleischmann from the 60's.

Hi all,
Cheez, the artic is Lima, Italian State Ry. E646.
The blue engine Frank shows us is a Belgian Railways (SNCB) Class 15. It's a tricurrant loco for international express trains. Lima did a quite good job with this one, even if it sits a bit high on the chassis.

I never knew Lima did a 'tri-courante', I thought they were the exclusive domain of L.S.Models. So cool, n'est-ce pas? Come back Lima, all is forgiven. Save us from a world of SD40s!

The real B6 had a stepped platform on one side only. I'll likely add a stepped platform on each. The Pennsylvania name will be hard to apply with those 3 large vents under the windows,so only PRR keystones will go on with no number change. And maybe some air tanks and pipeing. Right now I'm detailing a Athearn USRA light mikado for the Pennsy. frank

Those old jackshaft electrics were cool. The electric motors of the time were far too large for the underframe, hence the jackshaft and siderods.

You found something I koow about. But not completly. The Pennsylvania Railroad class DD1. In steam a D class in Pennsy was a american type 4-4-0. It stayed the same for electric locos. So a DD1 was 4-4-0 0-4-4. Where I live the pennsy pulled their trains to the west side of the North Bergen NJ. Steam or Diesel ended here. The DD1 was a tunnel motor or transfer engine that would pull the passenger trains into Penn Station. I don't know how many they had. it wasn't just a couple. I don't know if the other electrics went stright into Penn Station or not. Pennsy did put their B class electric that was resigned to work in pairs and at times used them the same way. I don't remember reading about that.

Very interesting pic Ken, I like that a lot!
Maybe that would be a neat kitbash project...just take two 4-4-0's like Frank said, and somehow place an old heavyweight coach over top. Of course you'd need to add a vast number of details, but the overall shape would be right.

Hi all,
this one is really good. It's a South African Railways Class 5e. Lima started to offer South African models in 1973 and over the years they offered a very interresting range of trains. I show some of them on my Lima collectors website:
http://mmiwakoh.de/Eigene%20Webs/lima-modellbahn/SAR1%20en.htm
And for the real thing:
http://www.geocities.com/satrains/electric5.html
This engine was also avalable in blue for the famous "Blue Train" and ther was a starter pack (extremely rare) with a gray version lettered "Metroblitz".
Check my website for these locos and also for the South African range of coaches and freight cars.

Hi,
this Fleischmann engine is quite valuable in Europe, prices for a good example in original box easily reach the 800$-mark.... I envy you!!!

My Mcginnis was a beat up, played with, no box running locomotive. It is pictured on my old layout. I traded it away when i got rid of my NYC and NH locos. It was valuable as I traded even for a Westside PRR I1 decapod. frank
