Haven't had much time to really get to know it, but I experimented a bit yesterday. Thought these pics might be interesting to a couple folks here.

The effects aren't anything I couldn't have tried with the old (or any camera) really. But this one really makes the colors and detail stand out. Even when you ghost and blur them

I like the way the crossing light stays in one spot on the blurred train...
That second picture would be 100% perfect in my opinion, if it were a blurred steamer in place of the other Chessie diesel. Like a "Ghost of Railroad Past".

| Cool G-I-C. I am waiting to get my camera. Mine was destroyed at work-- I dropped it into the sand silo at work while helping maintenance. The sand is not what destroyed it--it was the water at the bottom. We were in the process of draining bins since work is slow and i leaned over to help the main maintenance guy and it fell right in out of my tight pocket-slid on top of sand and hit the water at bottom of silo. He went down to open gate which drops material onto a scale--camera and water came gushing out then sand. I had been spraying water an hr before removing loose sand stuck to sides--so there was approximatly over 100 gallons of water in bottom of silo

Darn, GIC, those are some of the sharpest looking layout photos I've seen. What brand is it, and how many megapretzels?

Whoa, the steamer idea does sound pretty cool. Unfortunately I don't have any suitable steam models. Just a couple Tyco derelicts, the Hogwarts Express, and my PC T1 in the Chessie Steam Special scheme, none of which would be a proper ghost of the past...
The camera is a Canon SX10 IS, 10MP. We got it new through Dell for 25% less than ANYWHERE else we looked, it just took forever to get here. A bit easier, more flexible, and quick/to-the-point than messing with our full-size SLR and two lousy lenses. Although I am finding I may need to invest in a better tripod either way, ha ha.

It was last year's model of the Canon SRL-like cameras. We had a Canon S1 (the first of this line) that we loved, but when that died we decided on the Rebel, which with the low quality lenses we haven't had as good of results as what we wanted.
Finding the SX10 in stock was a challenge (i don't think Dell even lists it all now) and we did wait over 2 months for it arrive. It was well worth the wait!
My SIL has one of the first of this model and my mom got one last year for christmas. It's a good camera. And you can get good, consistent quality photos.
Everything has been hit or miss for us with the Rebel. It's great for outside, but inside, UGH. It's no one we have a fewer pictures of the littlest one.

I didn't know Canon made an Alco S-1.
Awesome rainbow camelian, GIC! John/Zebrails
search "Zebrails" on YouTube
I don't have a one track mind. It depends on the turn-out. "I love your catenary!" Is that a power-trip or just another pick-up line?
