I remember back in the 70s, it was not uncommon, to buy a Life-Like Buildems kit, that was missing a piece or two.. Sometimes it was a fairly large piece. I had recently spoke with a guy who had paid a big price for a McDonalds Buildems kit that was missing a small section of the front side wall under the windows area. Fortunatly he found some similar material at a hobby shop and produced the piece unnoticably. Though the kits were bagged & sealed... still sometimes a part was not there.

Has anyone bought a sealed Buildems kit lately with missing pieces?

Yeah ... my grandmother bought me a Buildems 7-11 when I was a kid for my birthday. When I went to glue it together, gee ... missing all the clear Window Glazing. And the clear pieces that said ELEVEN for the sign. I made due with using clear plastic from other packaging that I cut to fit. And very carefully, using a fine point black pen, I wrote ELEVEN on two small strips of white plastic cut from some other packaging I found in my parent's utility room. It worked. Long since lost it, but even back then I was making replacement pieces. :^)

Luckily I haven't run into that. As far as the McDonalds goes it is possible to use most pieces from the Buildems Freezee Ice Cream. Other than the signs, the pieces (in shape) are identical. Don't hold me to that but that's a fairly true statement.

Hey guys! Graig, I guess you were lucky to be missing the windows since they would be easy to replace but the sign??!!
I was always the guy that would get a kit missing a wall or something! The worst part of it was I lived 45 miles from the only place that I knew to buy the Buildems kits! That was a Woolworth store... The first 6 years of my train hobby, I was young and had to get my parents to drive me the 45 miles to get my train items..

Todd, I believe you are correct. I have both the McDonalds and the Freezze but they are not where I can look at them now. I too am almost certain fit would be the same.
