Those familiar with the Tyco Domino Sugar hopper are aware that the Domino lable is common to peeling or flaking off. I have a perfect Domino hopper and I am not worried about the flaking issue. I believe if it was going to flake or peel, it would have done so before now.

Does anyone have an idea of why some of these hoppers paint didn't stay on well?

That's an interesting question. I too have a Domino Sugar hopper that's decals are in perfect condition. Mine came in its original box, and that's normally where it stays, so this may have had something to do with it.

I suppose the quality also could have varied from batch to batch. I'm not sure how many years the car was made for, but perhaps something was changed midway through production.

The only other reason I can think of that may have affected certain cars is the climate they were exposed to. Where I live, we get very cold, dry winters and hot, humid summers. The decals on my Tycos seem to be holding up ok...then again, I don't leave my trains outside

Hi Cheeze, I believe if a Tyco Domino hopper has good labels on it today, they will remain in good condition without worry. As a life time auto painter, I think if the paint was going to peel, it would have already done so like many has...

Just a heads up for anyone looking for the Tyco Domino sugar hopper. There are six of these on auction at this time with good labels & a seventh in a store with poor labels. I have never seen so many of this hopper being offered at the same time. Here's the chance for several of you guys/girls to get one!

I have 12 favorite hoppers by Tyco, the Domino is 1 of 'em!

Luck, usually comes dressed in work clothes...
