Ken aka Catfordken PM'd me with this CN Caboose and asked who made it? I'm gonna put it out for everyone to toss in on.
Believe waaay back the original tooling for this New England-style Caboose may be Gordon Varney's line? If not, perhaps Penn Line did it first?
I'd say it is most familiar as a Life-Like HO offering throughout the '70s and on to today in train sets. And may even be the foundation tooling for the Life-Like Proto 2000 Caboose?
Beyond Life-Like, I know Bachmann ran this Caboose or one very similar to it from time to time. Bachmann catalogs it in the '80s dressed for CNW and NYC service, if I remember right.
And our good friends at TYCO included it in the Johnson Wax promo train set...though I've never seen a TYCO example of this body style caboose beyond the walls of that Johnson Wax set. I don't have one, but always have wondered if the underframe on the Johnson Wax example says TYCO Hong Kong or just Made in Hong Kong...anyone know?
Think I would probably have to put my money on Life-Like, if I had to make a guess.
Any other thoughts?

Yessir...I had a Johnson Wax caboose AND a Chessie Life-Like cabbose, and rivet-for-rivet, they were identical. I found it odd that the Promo set had a Life-Like outsourced piece in it...but it was done in 1985, and by then Tyco was outsourcing left and right...Mehano, etc. I believe it is a Life-Like.
I am willing to bet 3 culvert pipes that Tony L's Coors Lionel HO is, in fact, a Tyco mold.
Anyone care to see my 3 culvert pipes and raise me a baggie of iron ore? [:D]

Okay, I match yer 3-Culvert Pipes and baggie of iron ore and raise ThOR a bag of TYCO Clementine "Gold"/bead nuggets and a bag of Operating Grain Elevator plastic wooden crate/boxes!!![;)]
Always wondered how TYCO figured grain was transported in wooden crates?!? [:D] But then it is also shown being shipped in 40' open ballast/coal hoppers lettered for Ralston Purina too.

Definitely Lifelike using Varney economy caboose mold. I have a Lifelike circus caboose that looks just like it with the same railings on each end.
