...sometimes you win but not how you expected.

So I was really excited to see this pop up in a junk tanker lot on ebay a couple weeks ago:

The other 7 tanks were the usual ancient Union76, Dupont, Texaco crap. This one was conspicuously different... had never seen or heard of it before. It was definitely Tyco tooling. And the decoration was plain and simplistic enough to BE Tyco... perhaps another scarce Hooker promo like the known-but-rare black car?

I took a chance and when it got here, I at first thought I hit paydirt. But then on closer look, the paint was a little TOO nice. It seemed to have an underlayer under the yellow print - Tyco NEVER did underlayers. But my suspicions were confirmed for worse when I looked under the frame and saw "Made In China" (not "Made by Tyco in Hong Kong").

It's an IHC. Which are scarce enough themselves these days that I had not seen this one before. Oops!

Still, this is an oddball even by IHC's standards. ALL of the other IHC tankers (see Toptrain's post, and other ebay listings) are MUCH more thorough in decoration and detail! Even Model Power's version of this exact same scheme is arguably better rendered.

Doesn't matter though because I still like the car... it goes well with Tyco's 3, and is more befitting of a modern-era tanker scheme (I'd actually run this with my better models). In fact, I bought another once I knew how to find it, LOL.

So no Alcan hopper redux. Still a nice find to me though, but I wonder how it wound up in that lot of crap.

Good read and I was hoping you'd uncovered another gem.

Actually, I must say I am somewhat relieved it wasn't another "gem". I still break out into a sweat thinking about the couple gems I currently don't have. Tony, you certainly helped me find a lot of variations to fill my display, but there are a couple in particular that still haunt me. Even though I haven't had the time or energy to put forth the search the last couple of years, I still check in on the forum to see what I should add to my list based on your finds. But, I would like to get at least one of the items stlill on my list before you add another to it.

There will come a day when I have more time, hopefully, and I will spend like a drunken sailor to clear that short list.

Perhaps I will have a drink to calm my anxiety in the meantime.
