LotW April 19-25
Sunday, April 19, 2009
I am waiting for this to come from a seller. This is a favorite color scheme for many railfans. Most will recognize the Tyco F7 w/Power Torque power. It's supposed to be unused w/ob.
This is a pic fresh out of the mail.

Chessie? Here's one on my layout in my pre-British Railways days. She resides on my display shelf currently.

If ya think that's funny, Model Power made a Conrail 0-4-0 steam switcher.

Chessie actually had an excursion steamer painted similar to Tyco's. It wasn't a Pacific-type, though.

It was Reading's T-1 Northern that was painted up for the Chessie Steam Special in 1977, but the scheme was a lot more tasteful. Broadway Limited did an HO version.
It was still in their roundhouse in '79 when it burned. I saw 2101 3 years earlier when it was the motive power for the Freedom Train.
Btw, there's one of those Conrail A-3's on eBay right now.

GREAT video of the Chessie Special really giving it everything its got. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0Wk58jlwVq4
Since we are on the Chessie whim this week hehe. My friend just donated a old B-unit to me to match my life-like F7. I had to mod the B-unit so its vents & trucks matched the ones I painted on my F7. Still needs a little work but its better than it sitting in the display case. /tyco/forum/uploaded/ChrisC/Trains251.jpg And for the fun of it /tyco/forum/uploaded/ChrisC/Trains253.jpg

Meh... I took the main weight out of it and tried to weight it to make it a little lighter so life would be easier for my F7. But as it sits now its still too light and derails after a few laps. The mad scientist in me wants to put a set of metal wheels in the front of the B-unit, add contacts and run wires up into the A unit. Giving it 8 wheel pickup but still only 4 wheel drive lol. Also maybe build a custom drawbar out of styrene or something. The look of the two units being a mile apart kills me!
Edit: MicroB you edited your post while I was editing mine haha. All the scenery stuff was done by my friends Dad. The substation was just something he wanted, but its a pretty cool kit. If you look on the ground you can see the trackage has moved. In a few weeks I'll post what we've been moving

Micro, the engine was a total loss. The heat was too much for the metal for it to be safe to try running her again. She was painted in her Freedom Train scheme and placed on exhibit in the B&O museum, and Ross Rowland (the owner) was given C&O 614 as compensation.
Great video, Chris! Boy, she was a talker. Fortunately, sister engine 2102 is still in service.

Micro, the quick & dirty. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chessie_System
I've moved on to like several other railroads. But Chessie will always stand out for me. Use to see their engines alot as a kid, and my F7 in the pictures was the first loco that was actaully mine. A friend of mine has a picture of the Chessie steam special when it passed through a local town less than 10 miles from my house. Too bad I wasn't born yet haha.
