So the Flexi-flow project had been gathering dust for a while, while I worked on gathering the "proper" materials, and trying to find some clear, conclusive photos to demystify certain aspects of the real cars (still aren't too many out there!). Of course I had lots of other distractions over the past couple years too...
I mentioned it way back at the start. Just got back to it in earnest in the past week or so. If anyone wants to see more about this project and my recent progress, you can check the link below....

I have a couple of these cars so I was interested in the rebuild. They have a unique look and I don't think I've seen them from another company. Thanks for the update.

I was watching your progress on your blog. Very nice work, and the etched brass is going to look great. So what did you make the walkway supports out of? Brass strip?
Btw, thos AHM Flexi's go for $20 a pop now.

Sorry, progress has been a little slow what with all the other projects in my life right now. But I threw up a couple more preview / completish pics on the build page on my site. Need to revise some piping, then I'll be ready for decals.
The </s>walkway supports</s> end platform grabs are styrene posts and brass wire... very tedious to build. I'm not sure a jig would have helped.

Thanks for the updates Tony, this is a great little project. I'd love to tackle something like this someday, but I've done two kits so far and I haven't really enjoyed the experience haha. I like how your going to pull off the decals for PC and Conrail.

Whoops, I wasn't clear...
NKP, the *walkway* supports are just brass parts that came with the Plano roofwalk kit. Not much to them, really.
The styrene post & brass wire parts I referred to are the end platform grab posts. THOSE were a pain to make, but they have to be scratchbuilt as there are no kits for these cars.
Chris, just give it a go sometime. It helps to read a few MR-type articles to have an idea of general techniques... you'll learn stuff even when the specific project itself may not have much personal appeal. My very first serious attempt at kit bashing was the B&O/Chessie Canstock car shown on my site... relatively easy as far as such things go (but with its own unique challenges).

Its ammazing what Brass Roofwalks can do to a model. I have an Intermoutain Rwy Co. CSX Hopper that is just beautiful! It has brass and seprately applied parts everywhere. I still use Bachmann cars if I can get them cheap, but they have hardly any detail.
