I WON 2 NICE LIONEL ALCO FA1 S ON E-SLAY,THEY ARE REAL NICE EXCEPT BOTH BACK TRUCKS WERE BROKEN @ THE SNAP JOINT . I DRILLED 1/64 HOLE IN THE TRUCK AND INSERTED A FINE COURSE SCEW TO MEET THE GEARBOX INSIDE,IT WORKS WELL ON EACH ONE. THEY USED VERY HARD PLASTIC ON THESE AND THERE IS VERY LITTLE GIVE BEFORE THEY SNAP. OTHER THEN THAT THESE TWO PULL REAL NCE TOGETHER.IHAVE THE BIG WIEGHTS FOR THE TOP OF THEM SET ASIDE THEY DONT NEED THEM.THANKS ADAM

Hey there:

I have two as well in CNR paint and they each have the same problem on one of the trucks... I was gonna combine to make one good one and toss the rest but have decided to make one perfect and one fixer-upper....

Nice job. I've fixed these myself by cutting a slot in the truck cap where the tab used to be, then inserting a sturdy piece of styrene in the slot. When painted and glued the repair looks very discreet. But your way is probably quicker!

looks like you found a way to fix the broken truck problem, Adam. I have one of these in the Rock Island livery. I was afraid to disassemble the trucks to clean and lubricate the gears because of this problem. I had a GT GP-9 several years ago that had the same problem. I never could keep it together so I wound up sending it to the landfill. I wish that I hadn't trashed it since I know now how to fix this problem. Thanks for posting this.
