Wow, $60 for one of those? I wish I had a pile of them, I'd list some on eBay right now.
Then again they are kinda rare, only because most people tossed them when the drive crapped out.

Sixty bucks? YEESH! For that price you could easily have a Proto 2K. I'm sure they go for much less than that.
Does anyone know the history of these? Any connection to the Roco version, like the SD24?

| hi pat not screwed, you paid a bit more,no a lot more than i would have, but as you say its part of the learning curve been there myself,2 tips i will give on auctions is set a figure and stick to it,on ebay bid as late as you can,if you bid early,it gives people more chance to bid, thereby pushing price up,thats all i can say on the matter ken

DUDE! Stop the E-Bay Madness and just hit Model train Shows. I just saw 3 of those Tyco NH E-3's in the box selling for $15.00 apiece along with 5 Tyco BN Sharks. The seller was Adamant that they were "AS IS, NO RETURN So I suspected PT issues on the lot of them. This was at a show in January in Sacramento, why I didnt pick up any? I was gorging myself on an Athern Genesis SF SD-85 for $40.00
I have purchased a BN E-6 Mint in box on Ebay back in the day for around $30 with shipping and it is one of my few PT's that runs really excellent, lots of power, pick-up, tracks good, and I just LOVE that gear whine. So have fun with it and just look around for your Tyco stuff at shows, garage sales, flea markets, make the chase the thrill and stay off of E-bay because you cant buy it all, nor would you want too! Just get the stuff that you stray into, makes for a varied collection.

I'm in canada so train shows are not very common up here.... i work 7 days a week so flea markets....not much time... i have a criminal record so getting to the train shows in the U.S. forget it so what do i have left....the guys on this forum who are willing to sell me stuff at very reasonable prices and e-bay but i'm getting advice from the guys here and i think i'm gonna save big bucks by following these advice...
i'll try garage sales this summer because not much of those in 3 feet of snow....

Arggg. I hear ya on that. I live in the capital city, and we only get one train show a year , and even then, there are only one or two tables that sell second hand stuff I once paid $50 for a Tyco GG1...not my best financial move

Hey Microbusss,
If you don't mind a drive, you come to the shows down here in Albuquerque, NM. We have a couple large-ish shows in the summer and a small, but better one, every other month or so.
The smaller shows are put on by the local "Toy Train Operators Society". While O and G scale are the norm for the group, the shows carry tons of HO stuff. I was buying Athearn blue-box locos in running condition for $10 each.

| that price for an unboxed one is way way to high, but it proves what have said for years, ebay prices are not consistent,we will no doubt have a few more of these RARE items this month than last month, all thinking that they will get $150,but if my theory is right they wont,so we will then have a new more realistic value for it,ken

Which points out something strange... it seems to me that lately prices for vintage trains and parts have been going through the roof, in direct contrast to the economy. I've seen certain things I'm looking for go for astronomical amounts in the past few weeks. Maybe people out of work are working on the ol' basement railroad.

Someone asked if there was any relation to the Con-Cor E7 - there's none, the Con-Cor was more or less a reissue of the Roco unit imported originally by Model Power.
$152? Well I think the last time I saw one MIB, was in a store when I was about 8, so..

Okay, while not DIRECTLY Tyco, it is related to this subject. Somehow, when there is a popular item, someone will buy it, keep it for a few weeks, then re-post the one he had JUST bought, same picture and everything as from the previous seller! Why?!? I swear, I've seen this EXACT crossover come by AT LEAST 10 TIMES!!!!! Unfortunately, I don't have the money to spend $10+ on a piece of track I'd rarely use...
