| Pat, That should be a Tyco from I'm guessing the late 'red box' era (1970), when Tyco went to the snap in trucks, but before all the production was moved to Hong Kong. May not be classified as 'rare,' but I've seen fewer in NYC paint than many other liveries. Chris

Hey Pat. It doesn't really show up in your picture, but is this the sticker that's on your car? I only have one car with this sticker, and I've always kinda wondered why none of my other cars have it.

Gareth: Unfortunately my streamliner didn't come in its original box.
lexlie: My camera has a button with a little symbol next to it that looks like a flower. I'm not sure what the name of the feature is, but it makes close-ups less blurry. See if your camera has that button.

Thin metal axles on plastic trucks date to the late 60's just to the very early 70's - these are the best trucks you can find for any Tyco car and are well worth scavenging junkers for.
The austrian-made streamline caboose also had metal axles, but they were thicker, silvery metal and performed almost as poorly as the plastic ones.
Even throughout the 70's, not all Tyco production was moved to Hong Kong. Some tooling appears to have been duplicated for production in both countries; among these would be the 50' plugdoor, and 40' boxcar, stock car, tanker, streamline caboose, gondola, and other "classic" tooling. Generally, "new" tooling (60' cars) seemed to come only from HK, while anything wearing a "promotional" paint scheme was usually produced locally in the USA.
Seems roughly after the Mantua name was reborn almost all Tyco production started coming from overseas.
