Hi Guys, Maybe you can help me out with this one. I picked up this boxcar Sunday and am not sure this is a Tyco made car. It is a 50' boxcar with a light green roof, white sides, with Seasons Greetings in orange, and red on the left of the doors. To the right of the doors is a blue drum, and a pine tree branch in green. There are markings MMP707 just below the drum. This car came in a Tyco Brown Box with Wonder Woman 368-C scratched out with pen,and 339-R-S-T writen instead. So my question is is this a Tyco car? I couldn't find one on Tony's Tyco Recource site. Also what would the value of this car be? It had never been run (until now) and flawless. The box is kinda rough though.
Thanks, Carl T.

Guilty as charged
What you have, Carl, is Mantua's companion piece to the similar car that Tyco released under their name. Both cars date from 1977 - the year Mantua began its comeback using Tyco products (confusing, indeed). "MMP" is a nod to the old "Mantua Metal Products" name. 707 is a way to disguise the year ('77) and presumably make a longer roadnumber.
Mantua's car is more colorful and better done than Tyco's. Tyco's seasons greetings car, #339-S, was a "limited" run of 10,000 sold via a single distributor, Echelon Hobbies of Michigan. A MIB example of the Tyco car will include a numbered certificate (I do have one). To my knowledge, Mantua's was not specifically limited or numbered.

Thanks for the great info Tony. So I guess it's worth at least the $4.00 I paid for it. Were the numbers on the box that are inked in pen actually the way the Mantua cars were sold?
Spank you very much, Carl T.
