Been busy this week trying to catch up on some modeling.
Some weeks ago I lost a bid on a case of Undec IHC reefers - the former Tycoslav "modernized" tooling with the refrigerator cast into one end. Turned out I knew the winner so I bartered a spare Quaker tanker for half the case... I take care of my friends LOL.
Anyway, finally got around to designing the scheme for these cars:

I have more planned for these in terms of plausibility, as the car tooling itself is kind of odd. Unfortunately it will be a while before I can paint again!
Finally, a nod to my canuk buddies who sent the fleet for the load: that project too is nearing completion:
Maybe done by this weekend if all goes well. It's been a bit more complicated than I expected.

The construction is done...!
First, the fleet:

A couple whimsy jobs there, but at least 13 of those paint jobs are authentic in color, including the interiors. I detailed the turn signals and grilles as well.
And now the rack:

The corrugated panels are scracthbuilt from styrene. The corrugation was thanks to Evergreen, but I had to measure and cut over 100 posts and panel splices. The herald placards are custom color-matched graphics by me. Note the recessed B&O placard, the ACI tag, and the shortened bottom guard (which makes room for the brake lever).
And now attempting to duplicate:

Need to detail the flatcar bit and weather the whole thing still... but overall I'm pleased with the results.
Thanks to all whole helped out with this by scoring the cars in Canada. BTW I might like a handful more in the future, if you see any more at your convenience.

That looks awesome! It should look just like the original once it's weathered. BTW, did you actually manage to use all of the Granadas?

Tony, that looks fantastic!!!
I love it as is, shiny as the cars it is carrying. I'm not into weathering, although I admire it when I see it.

Little bit of rust and grime and it will look picture perfect!
Amazing work, and if you need any more Cherries, I think Cheez and I are up to the task.
You should enter that thing in a model contest with the photo...

Ditto, here! That looks really nice. I also like the "track-in-tree" design on the boxcar. That really stands out.

I have yet to play with styrene on anything, but after I saw your project I started to get ideas . Seriously thats amazing work. I noticed in the background of your first shot there are some other carriers waiting. Are you going to build more in this same style?

Nice work from the "Ducky" shops there GIC! Haven't found the Riv/Tyco SF 630 yet. Course 90% of my packed stuff is still packed from the move last October.

Thanks for the compliments everyone.
I have 4 more of the accurail kits to finish, but only one of them will get the same panel treatment for now (leftover materials). Can't decide if that paneled version will be a bi or tri level.
I've gone a bit crazy on autoracks since all those 70's autos came available in HO the past couple years:
1) Bi-level, STC, VW Vans (will trade out for Ford E-100's at some point) 2) Tri-level, STC, VW bugs 3) Tri-level, L&N, AMC Gremlins 4) Tri-level, CPRail, AMC Pacer (under construction. Might put "chickenwire" sides on it to mimic the last open autorack I ever saw: a CPRail rack in the BRC yard in Chicago, hauling Ford Explorers... in 2003!) 5) Tri-level, BN, Ford Pintos (under construction) 6) Tri-Level, B&O Chessie, Ford Granadas, paneled 7) Bi-Level, C&O, Dodge D100 Vans (under construction) 8) Bi-Level, ATSF, Ford pickups (under construction; need to acquire old LifeLike trucks) 9) Tri-level, B&O Chessie, BRASS (custom painted by me) enclosed sans roof, Chevy Citations
Then I have a half-dozen of the Walthers enclosed style (BN, C&O/Chessie, CNW, UP, The ROCK, Southern Pacific).
Sigh. It's a disease. Someday I need to find or build a layout big enough to run them all on.

Yeah and the Lincoln isn't a disease right? It's transportation! and gas is so affordable at least for the three people left employed who will be taxed to pay for the Stimulus package! Is that over a Trillion yet or still in those measly billions!

| the thing i like about gics models is that he always finishes them of,ie car transporters with cars on,to the point where the load most likely cost more than the item itself, keep em coming gic ken

Still have it - for now - but haven't had time to do anything with it! Actually ran some jobs for the owner. No time for my own lately. But I'm trying to get my contingencies in order to run a stockpile before giving it back. You'll notice the new Reefer design does not use white lettering....
In the meantime I'm only blessed that the owner is generally as overwhelmed and absent-minded as I can be at times . And I probably will cry when I have to give it back. Did I mention these printers also have a design flaw with a finite life span? It's only a matter of time either way.
