There's an interesting story about three of these prototypes, the U30B's, #301, 302, 303...
They began life as U30B's... were tested by a few roads, orders were made for roads wanting finished samples. And they were made.
The three same locomotive demonstrators were sent back to GE, were up-dated, and then sent out again, but as U33B's... orders were made for railroads interested...
They were again sent back to GE, improved the wiring/horsepower/kilowatt and sent out as U36B's... Once again, orders were made...
...and then something sorta weird was done to them... they were sent back and de-rated back to U30B's... go figure!
Basic Black... can't get much simpler than that.
