THAT IS COOL...ONLY ONE THAT HAD THEM...UP TO MY KNOWLEDGE
THE FANGED ONE...GARRET
"Though amid all the smoking horror and diabolism of a sea-fight, SHARKS will be seen longingly gazing up to the ship's decks, like hungry dogs round a table where red meat is being carved, ready to bolt down every killed man that is tossed to them . . ." by Herman Melville

I think SP tried it... they opted for the U50.
I don't have a one track mind. It depends on the turn-out. "I love your catenary!" Is that a power-trip or just another pick-up line?

Many tried it, but UP bought it!
As I remember, GE had a green demonstrator turbine (double ender) travelling around on a promotional tour but only UP decided to buy those units, even the demonstrator.
The U50 was a conventional Diesel which was built on retired turbine frames.
By the way, we had gas turbines in Germany as well. It was the 3850HP four axle Class 210 (1970-78). Engine configuration was a little bit different, as we had a 2500HP standard diesel motor and a 1350 helicopter turbine booster in those locos.
The hatch on top is the turbine exhaust. They were seen pulling heavy express trains Munich to Lindau (Swiss border). This experiment was ended after a couple of turbines blew up and the locos were rebuilt to normal 218 class locos.
The model is from Mehano, Slovenia with Swiss Liliput coaches in tow. By the way this is my only sound equipped model, great!
