Hi Guys,

I have a few Tyco, and Life Like trains that have styrofoam remnants stuck to them from contacting the packaging over time.
Anyone else had the same problem?
And how did you get rid of it?

Thanks,

Compressed air.

Seriously - get the spray cans sold for computers and electronics. GREAT for blowing the itty bitty crud out of drives and the like. The ICG 630 I recently obtained had styro pox, and the compressed air licked it no problem.

I would caution against using it full-pressure on items with fine/fragile details though. That is, unless you're going for the "Fujita" look.... [:D]

GIC,
The remaining foam isn't the foam beads, but what looks like melted? styrofoam. It's kinda stuck on there and I don't want to damage anything.

Carl,

I'm sorry but I'm afraid I don't understand? If it's sort of an extruded foam, I'd imagine it should just peel off. I'm picturing like, a thin potato-chip like chunk of foam, like what I've seen on other things (not trains).

If you have pics that might be helpful...

I have the same problem-it's like over time the styrofoam bonded to the paint on the locomotive, and now there is a thin residue-kind of a whitish film-stuck to the paint of the shell. It does not seem inclined to "just peel off". Anybody know of a solvent that will remove it with out damaging the paint?

My first try would be with WD40 and a Q-Tip...very carefully. Works great on price tag adhesive.

I tried the WD-40 and it worked great on the actual white remnants of the styrofoam. There is still a noticeable "sheen" where it was, though-any other suggestions?
