I would say Athearn if it was just the car, but with the containers, I don't know. Does it look like the containers were part of the original model?

OK, I'm sorry but can't help it anymore and I have to ask: Is there any rhyme or reason to what you buy and collect? Or do you just buy whatever? Or get stuck with weird leftovers in lots, or...?

Don't take that the wrong way... but for like a year now I've been befuddled and amused by all the seemingly random stuff you post that you've bought or want to buy but have no idea what it is... Kinda like Wall-E finding things (if you've seen that movie) . I think we need a "Ken's Scavenger Hunt" forum - it'd be even more exciting than the LotW and CotW!

Looks like a special run display piece using an Athearn car. When Athearn introduced those cars they had containers for them that I don't think have ever been reissued.

I've had a few oddball Tyco cars the same way - they'd be on a piece of Tru-Scale track with the screws run right through it to hold it all together. They were uncataloged roadnames on standard cars, but I forget now just what I had (sold them fairly quick to collectors).

Do the doors on that 40' container open? It looks like there's an oversized finger tab provided to open them. I think I've seen similar tooling for "opening door containers" on some old "hot wheels" (Zee? Yatming? Road Champs?) diecast trucks sold in the 80's, a few of which I still have somewhere.

Definitely an awesome piece. Great find for the intermodal fan.

The flat car, as now seen more clearly in your pictures, is Athearn. Recent blue-box kits still include the black shoes for the containers, and/or you could install the two hitch posts in the middle of the deck.

Athearn's original containers did not have opening doors, so I'm not sure what those are.
