i am so glad that santa clause brought me a Bowser Mike
I am living in Austria/Europe, we ordered it in the USA and they missent it to Autralia, from there it came back to Austria. so it traveled around the whole world! For my friends in the USA: Australia is in the Pacific, Austria is in Europe over the Atlantic! using a bigger hammer instead an anvil makes it easy to assembly the valve gear with the rivets. ready assambled valve gear ready for track test - erich

Yep...Austria is where you throw shrimp on the barbie, flat out like a lizard drinkin'...
...Australia is home of the Alps and Julie Andrews...
Nice work on that Mike, I have the K4 from back in the Penn Line transition. What do you think of their later releases? I found their rivet tool quite effective and their kits much easier to do than they first appear.

Erich,
Apologies for my geographically illiterate fellow citizens... thank the public school system that doesn't even teach basics like geography anymore. It's either that, or selling on eBay seems to automatically make people stupid.
The poor Mikado hasn't even been built, and it's already got about 10,000 miles on it.
Bowser kits are awesome. I haven't built one yet, but would like to. Post photos when you're done (or even in the before).
Nice K4, Shaygetz. I bet she pulls stumps.

Is there much flash on the castings Erich? It looks very clean. I had a Mantua 2-8-0 kit with really bad flash, to the point it formed webbing between the cylinders and the steam pipes.

Hi Nelson
there is some flash to file from the casting! there are some parts you can not put together without filing ( like inserting wheels in the frame). very much is on the tender frame. important thing is to take your time and a different set of files.

worked a little bit and finshed truck. Had some problems with to small holes in the pilot for the hangers of the coupler arm, also holes in hangers are to small, the coupler arm was to short. drilled all the small holes a little bit bigger and bend a new coupler arm by myself. - Erich

Good looking loco. I've always wanted to get a Bowser kit - the harder, the better - but they're hard to find around here. Oh well - local club's "auction night" is this Wednesday and there's always good things up for grabs.
And I second the idea about painting. Sometimes it seems like a sin to have to cover all that intricate work with paint. I'm there now with a heavily-modified MDC-Roundhouse Alco RS3 that's been detailed as an ex-NKP locomotive (besides being modified from a Phase 2 to Phase 3, there are all kinds of other road-specific details). I just gave it a paint job two days ago (NKP black and yellow) and now I can't see all the separate details - at least until I weather it and they all visually pop out again...

| i can see where you both are coming from, but putting the detail on,surely is to make it more prototypical, but never see a real one naked of all paint,so its all defeated by not being painted, but like i have said before, its down to what makes your boat float, ken

If you color it, you could also buy a plastic one! I do not color it, to show its different. But I am planing to color the next Bowser and weathering it heavyly. When the kits where popular in the fifties or sixties coloring of them was a normal thing everybody did. Think thats you meant Ken. - Erich
