Anyone know where to get replacement brake wheels? I lost a "few" when I was an irresponsible kid, and my Silver Streak set NEVER had any!

Thanks in advance,

Glenn

I agree with Ken--If you're just looking for generic brake wheels, no problem. There is a certain look, though, for the discriminating Tyco collector. I've been known to pick up a junker car just for the original brake wheel. And, of course, by the 80's-90's, many Tycos didn't even seem to be equipped with them. Drives me crazy, though--I won't run or display a piece without the brake wheel attached!

Everyone, thanks for the feedback. I was hoping for the real things, so I'll keep an eye on ebay (thanks for the link, catfordken!)

I bought some from Yardbird Classic Trains on eBay. They also have a web site yardbirdtrains.com.

I have yet to find another brand or make of brakewheel that fits a Tyco car, due to the downright miniscule size of the Tyco wheel's mounting peg. Your best bet is OEM - through junkers or even the IHC re-releases.

I always felt the Tyco wheel was nicely done and much better looking than other contemporary competitors'.

($7 shipping is a massive ripoff for a bag that weighs less than an ounce. Try first-class in an delivery-confirmed envelope for $1.50)

I've also bought brake wheels from Yardbird Trains. They have the ones for box cars and advertise the wheels on a long shaft for the old time cars. I use the shaft style wheels for Tyco flat cars, piggy backs etc. The shaft has to be clipped to the correct length to fit under the piggys but it's nice to have a finished car. Shipping is very reasonable.
Yardbird has both available for auction on ebay or you can buy them direct at their web site.
