Am wondering if any one has any experience with the Walthers HO Turntables ?....... I would like to install a Walthers 130' turntable on a new HO layout I am setting up & cant seem to find any one with 1st hand info on any of the Turntables, in searching the web I see there are few comments on the Walthers Turntables that say they give prob's when indexing other say they can be a electrical nightmare, they cost around $200.00 to $250.00 which to me is a lot of money if they do not function properly, I am tying to make a nice engine facrtility for both Steam & diesel where I can turn engines 180 degrees which would require a lot of indexing, I use both DCC with sound & also switch to regular DC to play with the older engines, just wondering if from the forum have or had or know anytrhing about the turntables & can maybe give me some 1st hand info ?............... of course have plan B where I will just use engine sheds & forget the turning around engines, Thank you for your time !........Abe

Hi ABE, I have the newest Walthers 130' turntable, model 933-2829. Installing the table and wiring are very straight forward. The instructions include a template to cut out the hole in the layout table. Once installed a few screw from under the table secure the turntable. The wiring is very simple, one wire (similar to CAT 5 cable) connects the turntable to the controller. Then two wires from a power supply to the controller and it's done. Indexing is very simple too. A little trial and error to line up the track to the table is all it takes. Once you line it up you press a button on the controller and the table will hit it's mark each time. The turntable also has a zero point, if you need to remove the bridge for any reason, after re installing the bridge hit the zero button on the controller. The bridge zero's and the turn table is operational. You do not have to reset any of the indexed points. The only problem I have had with this turntable is a few pieces of ballast got pulled into the gears, I had to remove the motor and clean out the ballast, re-zero and it's been woking fine. Keeping the pit clean is a good idea. Hope this helps, I can scan and email the instructions to you if you'd like to see them as well. I've added a picture of the turntable on my layout. I'm running an MRC Prodigy Wireless DCC system.

I have plywood base with a paste board on top pus a sheet of the blue insulation on top, probably 1 1/2 " of platform, can always add more insulation board, Thanks again for your time & Picture as I greatly appreciate your helping to make my mind up, when finished I will take a picture of what I did, Walthers has a back order on the 130' Turntable until next March & I dont want to wait till than to get one, will have to watch ebay for one, Thanks again, ..........Abe

Hi Abe, Glad to help out. The diameter of the hole in the layout table is somewhere between 18 and 19 inches, I'm at work and don't have the exact measurement. The depth of the turntable is maybe 1.5 to 2 inches. I checked with Trainworld in NY and they have the turntable in stock, their web site lists the price at $219.00, thats where I bought mine, they have decent prices on many items that seem high dollar to me. I've bought a few Proto loco's with sound and DCC there as well. Check their website or call them. The phone number is 800-541-7010, web address is http://www.trainworld.com/
