Folks:

...because I sure didn't!

Kadee makes an adapter specifically for Tyco equipment!

http://www.kadee.com/conv/pdf/t305.pdf

Between these and the Life-Like Scenemaster couplers I've got ordered from Walthers, I ought to have all my equipment converted before long.

I like the knuckle couplers a lot better, since I do a lot of pushing and switching with my Tyco cars, as well as any others, and I want to be able to run everything together. The feed mill doesn't care whether it's a Jell-O boxcar or a Wabash boxcar, just so it's full of bagged fertilizer...

I've never heard of those before. I have however found Tyco cars and engines that have been modded similar to that. Most of the time, the previous owners have done terrible jobs. I've found several which have had the whole coupler pocket replaced, just to put another horn hook on I've even found one F-7 where the idiot cut off part of the rear door to make his stupid mod fit

Good to see that someone is making proper replacement coupler pockets.

Well, sometimes you need to break a few eggs before you get that omelet, you know?

What gets me about these little Kadee adapters is that they've been making them *forever*...I knew about them, I saw them in catalog listings, but I ignored them because I had no idea what a "Talgo adapter" was for. I really should have read their conversion guides.

I mentioned these a while back in this thread: Life Like Brand Knuckle Couplers.

Alco Fan discovered that Life Like makes knuckle couplers that fit talgo boxes without any adapter. I wondered what talgo couplers were for a long time, too.

Oh fer sure...you should see some of my earliest attemps at fixing these coupler pockets. They were functional, but not the neatest. I rebuilt the top have of a coupler pocket (plastic one) using wires for the side, and some cereal box cardboard for the top. IT STILL WORKS

I have a Tyco electronic steam sound car they put Kadees on and cut off the boxes. Which I can fix easily enough on one end - but the other end has the contacts and stuff riveted in place. Argh!

Funny isn't it. I've known these adapters were around and have been for a very long time. So I'd have felt a bit foolish announcing that Kadee make them. I'd quite simply have assumed everyone here would be well aware of them.

Oh well. An important lesson has been learnt. Never assume anything. :)

Although I've long been familiar with the term myself, I can understand people not knowing what Talgo means. Perhaps Kadee's sales of these would've been much greater if they'd used a different term.
