Larry ; Your not alone. Sometimes in the past my computer and this site dont play nice together also. It only happens once in awile now. With my old windows XP it happened more. * With the photos you do put in they are very good. They verge on being alitle large. Perhaps nextine you have a problem you should try making photo a little smaller. It might work. * Larry keep up the good work. I realy enjoy your photos.

Buss, that HO helicopter car is BIG bucks on Ebay, I haven't seen one go for under $40-50 yet, complete. I've actually got 3 of the launching flat cars now, but no helicopters - THAT is the hard-to-find part. If they're priced in any reasonable way, you can always flip it to recover your costs and make a profit. I've got 3 missile-launchers as well, no missiles, and the little side plastic handles for launching are broken off of them. But I paid $8 for a lot of 11 HO Lionel cars, so I can't complain. :)

Here's a (made by Athearn) Lionel Milwaukee Road F-unit. The roadnumber is "2376". It's got the old rubber band drive. The little letter "L" with the circle around it is barely visible on the orange stripe over the rear truck.

Yesterday I was able to get a additional and different Lionel HO flat with airoplane. NicKel Plate line, #1958 with the Lionel L. In the 1958 catalog this Nickel Plate car can be seen. It is # 0800. The first car listed in the catalog.

Hey Frank,
Do you want anymore Lionel HO? Specifically a very tidy Pacific? I also have a pristine in original box Lionel HO CNR FA though I was thinking of offering that to the Ontario Ken or possibly Cheez. Also I have one of the Lionel Erie Centre cabs. gear powered of course but no bottom plate. Since you are in Jersey, I could probably rendevous with you on a trip to NY (Thornwood)
Can't think of anything else you'd be interested in...

Wait a second, did your ALCO come with Bloomberg trucks, or did you repower the unit with an athearn mechanism? I have a dummy FA somewhere by Lionel, and it didn't have bloombergs on it. It had the same trucks as an RS unit.

** A seeker of the truth, ISLANDERH97, has responded to a post here. O Seeker, is it wisdom you seek for in a response to the technical wizardry involved in producing the sight you have witnessed. For the vision you have had is totally, and completely, LIONEL ! A seeker with knowledge of this particular device, would know of what Lionel HO implements would produce this vision. Am I to conclude this investigation into the techniques used to accomplish the scene sighted in past view is of a purely inquisitive nature. Or are there dark, decptive, and sinister deeds being plotted here. ? toptrain1

A great Alco rides upon the foundations set forth by its predecessors, while this Alco appears to ride upon the very fundamentals of its competition. It may be entirely Lionel by manufacture, but is that the stock mechanism for an Alco to ride.
A mutant alco is better than no alco at all.
I don't cut up or kitbash Lionels; no evil could be afoot. I want to find out if there is a stock method to breathe useful life into my dummy, as I need a leader for all the followers in my yard.

Hope is all well when it gets here as in it runs and smokes! Now I just want the hydraulic car, the giraffe car, the sherrif and outlaw car and the milk car!

HOW HAS THIS THREAD GONE THIS FAR WITHOUT THE IMMINENT THREAT OF THE PRIMED MOUSETRAP CAR?!?!?!?!?!?!?!

(I love how Lionel was so obsessed over decoration, they hacked the ladder and rivet detail to provide a uniform smooth surface for the white text and stripe. Seems wholly unnecessary; see the Alaska car I posted above for comparison).

A lot of early Rivarossi had very low-slung coupler mounts. You can see that the pilot of the left one was missing the horn & hook before I replaced the coupler.
Here is an 0500-117 set of replacement brushes for Rivarossi motors with a commutator slot cleaning tool.

Lionel did one, one of those appears to be the clone of it which in the Lionel book they're not sure who made.
Gilbert also did one, based on their 40' reefer tooling.
Later, Cox made one for the Army train which went to AHM. They're a 50-foot plug door box car.

Some more 70's stuff...
...including the first train set I ever received, or what's left of it. Well, technically my dad bought it presumably for himself for Christmas display, but one of my very earliest memories - in the hazy filter that can't be timelined - is of this train running under the tree. So I consider this to be the one that planted the bug. After destroying my share of Tyco's 80's junk, I was finally allowed to dig "The Lionel" set out of the garage when I was 12. It had languished there since I was... 4 or 5?
Endorsed by none other than Johnny Cash himself: the Burlington 181!

^ Lionel GP30, Burlington Northern 181. Kader drive. As common as Tyco's BN boxcars, but still looks good.
This is not the one from "my set" - that one, uh, suffered some abuse, so this is a like replacement.

^ Lionel 40' boxcar, GT. This is the Lionel-tooling version, they later sold a rebranded Kader, including in late runs of the same Burlington 181 set. The weathering, COTS & ACI decals, and end lettering, on this and the other cars, were added by me when I was 13.

^ Lionel hopper, BN. A really sharp looking car.

^ Hopper, DRGW. Most of the BN181 sets included a Rio Grande gondola instead of the hopper, but our set had two hoppers. I have seen a couple others this way too.
Also, many of the BN181 sets used the cheaper Kader versions of the hoppers, instead of the Lionel tooling. So my set was kind of nice for being all-Lionel with duplicate hoppers.

^ The only tank car Lionel HO sold in the US in the 70's. There is another one for Canada.
This is another subsitute item, the original one from my set, though I remembered it, was lost before I rescued the set from the garage.
<P&LE coil car to come>

^ matching caboose.
Shortly after digging out the set, I found and bought another Lionel car to go with it:

^ Lionel 40' box, CP Rail. Really did a fine job on this paint scheme. I thought the sequential road#'s on this and the GT boxcar (and my two hoppers above) were pretty cool back then.

The ones I'm going to post are not complete, except the Conrail boxcar. But I have 4 Lionel cars not posted yet.
Conrail Boxcar

DSSA boxcar

Log dumper

Helicopter launcher flat

I bought a large lot of Lionel action cars some years ago off Ebay, most are missing something like trucks, broken bits, etc, but I got them all ChEAP. LOL. The helicopter launcher is complete except for the whirly-bird, and I think they repro them now, so I will have to invest in that someday.

I have a bunch of Lionel cars in a box...gotta remember which box. But:
I have a box I know where its is full of FA's. Dang near every one is warbonnet red and silver...except for one set of blue....I thought it was blue and yellow, might be blue and silver....FA and FB. Until I got that B unit, I'd never seen one in Lionel H0.
I have a chassis....most of it anyway...and some extra chassis truck bits....8 wheel gear drive, with pulleys on the worm shaft of each truck, and a pulley on each end of the motor. Allowed the trucks to flex, and still have worm gear drive. Geep style....not like in the FA's. Is that what's under your Geeps? Dave

Lionel did the blue warbonnet FA in the 1970s. I'm not sure if it's supposed to be based on a Santa Fe experiment, if someone saw a picture of D&H PAs, or what.
The 1970s issues are tough - the clips on the bottom truck cover (whiich includes the sideframes) are extremely fragile. I'm not sure if they lasted long enough to get a pancake motor drive, but I've seen the pancake in GP30s and GP9s. Since the GP9 drive is a direct swap to the U18B that probably got it too.

OK Dave you got a lot of work to do making and posting photos. Lionel made so many cars you are bound to have many not posted. And those complicated diesel drives Lionel made with Gears, shafts, pulleys, and drive belts are horrible drives. On my NYC GP9s and rectifier, I replaced them with Athearn drives, probably threw away the old drives. The only old drive I have is on the PRR rectifier and it barely runs
* lvrr - no name, Go to HOseeker at bottom of main forum page, and search Lionel catalogs. Info there on many Lionel FA1's

Lionel produced the Santa Fe blue, yellow & silver FA units from 1976 thru 1977. Lionel did not produce any FB units during this period.
