Hi all,

Slowenian manufacturer Mehano is about to stop production after 10 years struggling.

http://www.eurofound.europa.eu/emcc/erm/static/factsheet_11863.htm?template=searchfactsheets

Meahno (former Mehanotehnika) gained reputation on the American market with a wide range of models produced for AHM, IHC, Model Power etc. In the 80s Mehano took over the molds of the defunct Pemco brand. They also served as a subcontractor for Rivarossi, Jouef, Roco and others.

Bummer, they did good work...

...as far as I was concerned, they did a respectable job carrying Rivarossi's torch.

So was my AHM RS-2, which says 'made in Yugoslavia', produced by Mehano? I shyed away from these in the '70's, but I quite like them now. (When I was younger, I didn't know the fine art of cleaning and lubing, not to mention used brass track, so Athearns were bullet-proof for me)

Back to Mehano, the mentioned Yugoslavian Alco was definately Mehano. Apparently, parts of the production was already in China. I think, the Mehano-Models will survive, probably under a different name! We will know more in January.

DUUUUUUDE....that sux My first engine was a Mehano. Over the past few years I've acquired 5 more, and they all run great.

I hope the PC train sets won't get more expensive because of this Actually, I just hope they're still making new ones O_o

Does any one know if the Mehano line is being imported into the US at this time? IHC did import some locos, but does not seem to have any diesels anymore. Loved the newer made C415, C628 and SD-35 IHC imported. I also like the old AHM imported GP-18. Mehano had updated that loco, but it was not imported into the US.

Boy, I though Mehano would be around forever. Whether calling themselves Tempo during the AHM days, or Mehano more recently, it seemed like they manufactured for just about everyone at some point. Perhaps their outdated tooling can't compete with the new state-of-the-art locos being produced these days, although I've seen examples of European models they've made that compete with anything being produced by P2K, Kato, etc. in terms of detail.

I wonder if they'll be bought out, or resurface under another name.

Cheez, the green Hudson on your picture, is it original Mehano? Never seen a Mehano with deflectors! What a beautiful engine....

Hey Martin. Yup...genuine Mehano. It came in a President's Choice train set that was released a couple years ago. Definitely one of my smoothest running engines.

Really? I had the one on the right, the 4-8-2, and it gave me no end of problems.

My 4-8-2 runs great. It's not in the best shape (I got second-hand as a freebie) but it still runs nice. I actually find it runs almost as good as my hudson. The only thing I don't like is how akward the 8 drive wheels can make it. What problems were you having with yours?

It was running pretty rough when I first got it, I was able to get it running pretty good though.
Then it decided it wanted to jump most of the switches on my layout, but I fixed that by adjusting the trucks.
THEN the headlight kept dimming, so I opened it up to replace the bulb and lost the screws that hold it together.

Yikes. Oh well, like yours, it was second-hand. Not a huge loss, but it did look pretty cool.

I really like the Mehano engines. I have these, 1 CP and 2 of the CN.
