Hey guys. I picked up this Tyco CN F7 today. I already have 5 of them, but it seemed to have all the pieces and was only a dollar so I decided to buy it. Anyway, when I got it home and compared it to my other F7's I noticed it had a silver (unpainted metal) fuel tank, while my other ones were all painted black. Is this one an earlier model? And if so, when did Tyco start painting the fuel tanks?

Weird...maybe a previous owner stripped off the paint? Just guessing that because the CN logo is missing off the front too.
By the way Cheez, what do you think would be better? One $35 locomotive, or thirty-five $1 locomotives?

Hmmm...I'm pretty sure the tank is all original (never had paint on it). There's no black flakes or residue on it anywhere (even the inside). I wasn't too surprised about the noodle logo either...I have several F-7's that are missing their nose decals.
Thirty five $1 engines for sure I've bought 3 CN F-7's for a buck each, and all of them work!

I think the fuel tank was chemically blackened just like the trucks, instead of painted. Maybe someone soaked it in naval jelly or vinegar. I think that removes the blackening.
