* Lastest Streamlined Locomotive is the Hornby Dublo A4 #7 Sir Nigle Grisley. A transfer from the Catford Branch. Sir Grisley is the man who designed the A4 locomotive. * Not like the other A4s that came to Frankford branch PGW. This one is all diecast metal. Drive is in loco, and not in tender. toptrain1

You aren't too far from that Statement As the steam locos do have a tire ring that is heated up then slipped onto wheel & allowed to shrink onto wheel *nerd*

Southern Pacific GS4 on ready track. To the GS-4 left is a Cary-Penn Line PRR N1. I copied a westside models front pilot to replace the standard air tank with a proper tank with platform arrangement. toptrain

** Early in march I got this all metal Hornby Dublo A4 silver King at a train show. For now it is unable to run because it is a 3 rail engine. I will do something about that ! The tender is a plastic hornby A4 tender and the paint doesn't match. It will do for now when all it needs to do is sit and fill a photo.

Thinking of the conversion > I have a complete spare A4 frame with drivers and axels for a DC 2 rail Hornby tender drive loco. This is different from the Hornby Dublo earlier A4's. All the wheels and axels are larger and not interchangeable. The frame is also different so not interchangeable as one piece. A conversion of the 3 rail drive is necessary. All axels must be done including the lead and trailing truck axels. Right side wheels must be pulled from there axels and some sort of insulation placed between the axel and wheels. I have to see what I can get to do this. I may have to widen the axel hole in the drivers to accomplish this with the addition of plastic insulators of some sort. Once done the insulated drivers will need electrical pickups to bring power from the rail to the insulated brush. I know what has to done. Just not sure yet how I will go about doing it. frank

I've always wondered, why is it that sometimes that deWitt Clinton train appears in a photo and never mentioned. Is it just one of those locomotives on display or do you just seldom run it?

Yep! ken is right. Their main attribute is sit-in in a scene, looking nice. It gives someone interested a chance to discuss them. It is like trying to run a Aristo-Craft Reading bicycle with a car behind it. Another scene setter. Very much like the small Bachmann, ATT and Ken kidder locos. VERY INTERESTING.

I have to say, seeing the words "Bachmann Spencer" and "Blue Comet" in the same sentence near made me have a heart attack. And speaking as a Californian, nothing is better than a fabulous GS-4 Northern, even ifnit isnt as fast as an A4.

* Well it looks like I get to post another of the PGW engines here. It isn't a true streamlined locomotive but its exterior finish is smooth and uncluttered with piping and external compressors, super heater's, tanks, and everything else that can be found attached to steam locomotive boilers. Early Reading pacifics were externally reworked to give a more streamlined appearance in much the same way as this locomotive was. This was considered streamlining back then. frank

My Flying Scotsman's coupling is broken off and I'll probably never be able to get spares since I live in the US so Flying Scotsman will forever be usless. Unless someone knows where I can find them in the US.

Now here is a new addition to this streamliner thread. The Hornby, Silver Fox, LNER, #2512 A4 class. A steam locomotive speed recorded at 113 MPH pulling the very unique 5 car train set the " Silver Jubilee. Made up of a color matching two car and three car sets with articulating trucks. frank

With the Silver Fox being acquired on Saturday August 8 2015 at the Greenberg train show at Edison NJ a second streamlined locomotive was gotten on the following sunday at the same train show. * The new locomotive from Sunday is a Hornby Coronation class pacific. The locomotive is the LMS #6237 "City of Bristol". I am still not sure but I do think that "LMS" is the " London Midland Southern railway". It would also seem the on the LMS, this style of streamling was designed by the "LMS" for there Coronation train sets and used on other "LMS' passenger trains.

what amazes me is they went to the cost of painting locos blacks to help make them less visible, but left all the coaches brightly painted never understood that, and frank its the london midland and scottish railway, the loco below has no survivors all scrapped,so they are building a new one, this is the hornby version,a class p2 2-8-2 mikado ken
she started life looking like a big brother to the a4 class seen below
